Mata Hari Amsterdam: the iconic restaurant has renewed itself

One of the most iconic establishments in Amsterdam? That must be Mata Hari. This place still has a boudoir vibe and a nod to Bella Époque. It marks the opulent time when the Dutch Mata Hari achieved fame as a dancer in Paris. The new Mata Hari honors the iconic hotspot, but with a modern twist.

Why you want to visit the new Mata Hari Amsterdam

In the heart of the city center, hidden in the Red Light District, you will find a hidden gem: Mata Hari Amsterdam. The restaurant, attracting a full house for many years, required an upgrade. The owners of Helling7 and Café Verlan saw their opportunity and recently took over the business. After a minor renovation and the development of a new menu, the new Mata Hari restaurant has been open since the beginning of January. The Paris of the end of the nineteenth century still predominates in the interior.

Menu Mata Hari

The renewed Mata Hari Amsterdam menu has a modern look and is in the same atmosphere as Helling7 and Café Verlan. In terms of drinks, the range is enormous: from fresh juices to different types of coffee, mocktails, cocktails, and an extensive wine list. The dinner menu at Mata Hari is a little more concise – at least in this first new phase of the restaurant. They now serve small platters with oysters (3 or 6 pieces), spinach-feta hummus, mackerel escabeche, and a salad with goat cheese. Those with a bigger appetite can order one of the drinks boards, including one with Kef’s famous cheeses or antipasti misti with matching wines. Then there are tasty snacks and bites such as sourdough bread with aioli and hummus, Dutch ‘bitterballen’, and calamari. It is an ideal place to settle down for an extensive drink and delicious snacks after a day of exploring the city.
