Why you want to visit the special Café Maurits Amsterdam
High-end dining in the setting of a brown café is possible at Café Maurits on Hoofddorpplein in Amsterdam-Zuid. Just a nice place to be, is how we would describe it. You can enjoy a three-course menu for €42.50 (un-Amsterdam prices) while enjoying equally good wines. The menu has been put together by a former Michelin star chef who worked at ‘t Nonnetje, among others – and you can taste that in the unique dishes.

Menu Maurits
‘Accessible but chic’ is how the owner of Maurits describes his new business. He opened a Par Hasard franchise business with his half-brother in 2019, but it was time for something different. And so it happened, because Maurits has recently become a reality in Oud-Zuid. The dishes are chic but accessible. The brioche with smoked eel and herb cream is highly recommended as a snack, as is the sourdough bread with beurre noisette to share. The starters are a bit more complicated, with more complex flavours. The roasted corn with puffed quinoa and aged cheddar is a real hit; as a main course, the veal loin and redfish are a great success. All are prepared slightly different than usual – you can tell that the chef has experience in a Michelin-star kitchen. And you rarely find that in such a relaxed setting and at such a reasonable price. On to Amsterdam South!
