Art, Museums & Culture Weekend tips Amsterdam

  • Dreaming of distant countries and immersing yourself in other cultures this weekend? This is possible closer to home than you think! The Tropenmuseum has a beautiful new exhibition on the tradition of Healing Powers and its associated customs from all over the world. From Ayahuasca to shamans and witches. Afterwards, have a meal on the terrace of Eetcafé De Tropen and finish off with a walk through the Oosterpark. The perfect morning or afternoon! Book a time slot here >>
  • Do you, like me, love street art? Then you’ll want to check out the new street art museum STRAAT at the NDSM-Werf in Noord. Afterwards, enjoy a coffee or lunch at IJver or Pllek, and you have a wonderful weekend day ahead of you!  Buy your tickets with a €1,- discount here>>
  • Until Sunday 17 October, you can wander through Imagine, the more than 70 artworks on the sculpture route of ARTZUID 2021. Download the ARTZUID app with an audio tour and get a map and catalogue from the Information Pavilion Apollolaan / corner of Minervalaan. More info via the website >>
  • The Vondelpark Open Air Theatre is back this year! This year will be a little different than usual, because buying tickets in advance is mandatory. Curious about the programme? Check it out here >>.
  • In my opinion, there’s nothing more inspiring than a good photo exhibition! FOAM is open again at full capacity. Buy a ticket here for € 12,50 >>
  • The Rijksmuseum is currently showing a reconstruction of The Night Watch, as Rembrandt originally painted it. Would you like to enjoy the Rijksmuseum once more without the hordes of tourists who will be arriving soon? Now is the time. Book a time slot and skip the line >>

Restaurant Daalder moved to a new location in West

Did you hear? Restaurant Daalder moved from the Jordaan to Amsterdam West. At the beginning of this year they received their first Michelin star, now they are going to cook their delicious dishes at Postjesweg 1 in Amsterdam. The location? The beautiful building of ‘Het Sieraad’ (where restaurant Edel used to be). All the fine things as we know them from Daalder have moved with them. From the ravioli with beetroot, the satay ayam amuse-bouche, and Daalder’s iconic “stroopwafel”! Curious about the new menu and the new setting? You can now make a reservation and good to know: during the weekend you can also enjoy a fine dining lunch here. Reservations can be made here >>

Terras van de nacht & Strand van de nacht

This summer, you can enjoy the afterglow of summer at the “Terras van de Nacht”, meaning Terrace of the Night, which has been transformed into a city beach and feels like a true oasis at the Riekerhaven. The programme is diverse, and for the next three weekends, it’s going to be a real banger, so book your table in time. Why you don’t want to miss it? Firstly, because you can kick off the Friday with a real ‘vrijmibo’ (after work drinks), secondly, because on, Saturday there is a sangria party with great tunes and finally, because on Sunday, the Terrace of the Night briefly transforms into a Beach of the Night (Strand van de Nacht) where you can chill out, eat and drink in your lazy beach chair. More info, the line-up and tickets >>

This whole month: Belviche X Sjefietshe

Maybe you already spotted it on my Instagram Stories, but at Sjefietshe, they have a very nice collaboration that you really want to taste. Together with the vodka brand Belvedere, they made a special ceviche called the Belviche. A ceviche of dorade, cooked in Belvedere Lemon & Basil Organic Infusion vodka. The dorade is gravad lax-style, cooked à la minute in vodka with lemon rind, basil oil and avocado, fennel herb, sourdough crisps and salsa verde. Complete with matching Belvedere Lemon & Basil Spritz cocktail! Reservations can be made here >>

Sustainable weekendtips amsterdam

  • Last week, such a cool initiative opened at Herenstraat 12! A pop-up SUPERmarkt where making more conscious, sustainable and better food choices is made really easy. I found it inspiring to see how many delicious independent food changemakers there are in the Netherlands. Do you want to get inspired and shop for groceries at home? Check the website for all brands and opening hours >>.
  • In the coming weeks, a very nice pop-up event will be organised at INSTOCK Amsterdam on Czaar Peterstraat. On Friday and Saturday, there will be dinners where the new generation of circular chefs will cook, and on Sunday, there is a Sunday market with music, art, food and drinks! Click here for more info about the pop up >>
  • For the most Instagrammable food of the moment in Amsterdam, you want to go to Flower Burger in the Hartenstraat. Colourful burgers that are also completely plant-based (vegan!). A success abroad with now its first establishment in the Netherlands. Check the website for the menu >>.

Afternoon Tea Weekendtips Amsterdam

Do you have something to celebrate soon? Then make a reservation for the wonderful Summer in the City afternoon tea at the Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam. I already had a taste of it, and the flavours are amazing! Book directly through the site >>

With autumn approaching, I always think a high tea with friends or family is a great idea to do something a little more special. Curious about more tips for good Afternoon and High Teas in Amsterdam in all price ranges? Check out this list with High Tea tips >>

Jansz Rosé Garden

Jansz has a new chef, and in the Negen Straatjes area, Jansz’ Rosé Garden opens every Friday to Sunday in September. Taste different rosés for a special price and enjoy the extended lunch menu of the new chef Arnout van der Kolk. I am going to try the lobster roll with Granny Smith and fennel soon! Would you like to know more? Reservations can be made via the website >>.

Serres Seafood Sunday

Those who love rosé and seafood will not want to miss Serre’s Seafood Sunday at Hotel Okura. With unlimited rosé and delicious dishes, such as half a lobster and octopus ceviche! Will I see you there? Check all details and book a table here >>

Having a drink at a (new) wine bar

New restaurants to test this weekend

  • Restaurant Le Coeur by chef Rick Swinkels has finally opened in the Negen Straatjes area. And I can’t wait to try it myself! The menu is á la carte, so no fixed menu, and you will find this new restaurant in the cosy Negen Straatjes. Get a taste of the atmosphere on their Instagram account >>.
  • The other day at the new Corner Store in Amsterdam Noord, I ate the best vegetarian food of recent times by far. Great location, great interior and great atmosphere. For those who know it: when the sun goes down, the place reminds a bit of Bushwick in NY, surrounded by sheds and garages. Read more about Corner Store here >>
  • At the Westergas (as the Westergas grounds are now called for short), Cantine de Caron has officially opened its doors. I went there for a lunch-meets-drinks, and I can tell you: it’s a good idea for you to try it, too. Thank me later! Reservations can be made here >>
  • Fiona is a new hotspot in the Red Light District where you can enjoy the most delicious Mexican dishes. Curious? Take a look at their site >>.
  • De Juwelier is the new á la carte restaurant of the team behind Restaurant 212**. In a cosy art deco building on the Utrechtsestraat, with delicious dishes on the menu and a lovely relaxed atmosphere. Read the full article here OR watch the new reels on Instagram >>
  • Restaurant Foer is not entirely new, but it is highly recommended. Special dishes, a great atmosphere and beautiful wines in a unique location on the East side of Amsterdam. Reservation is a must, and when the weather is nice, there is a terrace! View the menu here >>
  • Have you heard? Restaurant Breda has a little brother! Klein Breda is open on the Utrechtsestraat. Open from Thursday to Sunday for lunch and dinner with a chefs menu, but also a choice for á la carte. Check out Klein Breda here >>
  • Have you seen it yet? After the pop-up Redbone on the Jan Evertsenstraat, there is now Sweet Jane. Whereas Redbone was an authentic restaurant, Sweet Jane is also a bar and has a separate entrance for a small but nice coffee spot. The interior is neither retro nor modern, but in any case exceptional. With small Asian dishes and at least half of them vegan, Sweet Jane fills a gap in the supply in the Baarsjes. Open every day from 17:00! Check the Instagram page here >>
