weekends in Amsterdam; the best tips in the Amsterdam weekend guide for September 19, 20, 21 & 22

โžŠ Negroni Week // until 22 September

When you say September, you say Negroni Week in Amsterdam! From 16 to 22 September, this classic Italian cocktail takes center stage at the best bars in the city, with special events every day. Which events shouldn’t you miss this weekend?

Thursday 19 September: Vesper
Two bars known not only for the high-quality cocktails they serve but also for their atmosphere and care for guests: both cozy, fun, and energetic, Vesper and Creps Al Born share their unique way of creating great evenings. Address: Vesper Bar – Vinkenstraat 57, Amsterdam // Times: 20:00 – 00:00.

Friday 20 September: Fitz’s Bar
One of the best bars in the world brings its French flair to one of Amsterdam’s most elegant bars: collaborations with local growers, seasonality, and craftsmanship are some of the pillars of Little Red Door in Paris. Walk through the Little (Campari) Red Door and enjoy these fantastic Negronis! Address: Fitz’s Bar – Mauritskade 61, Amsterdam // Times: 20:00 – 00:00 // Good to know: walk-in only.

Saturday 21 September: Door 74
For a more romantic evening, you can visit Door 74 on Saturday, where you’ll be welcomed with an ice-cold mini Negroni and special music selections to create a Campari โ€˜Red Passionโ€™ atmosphere. Just meraviglioso, right? Salute! Address: Door 74 – Reguliersdwarsstraat 74, Amsterdam // Times: 20:00 – 02:00 // Good to know: reservation required >>.

Or create your own Negroni route from all the participating (cocktail) bars! Hereโ€™s a suggestion to get you started:

Negroni Walk in Amsterdam Centrum:
Planning this route already gets me excited for my next date night! Start at Vesper, a classic spot around the corner from Haarlemmerstraat, and very small. To secure a spot, your best bet is earlier in the evening. Then head to Sins of Sal, a hidden gem where you can also enjoy excellent food. After that, stroll through the always lively streets of Jordaan toward Bar Oldenhof. If you’re in the mood for another Negroni along the way, Salmuera is a perfect stop!

Negroni Walk in Amsterdam Oost:
Of course, a route through my own neighborhood, where Iโ€™ve lived for over 18 years, canโ€™t be missed! Combine the classic Fitz’s Bar and the new Catuabar (where you can also enjoy delicious food โ€” I made this video about it!) in one evening. A completely different vibe, but with one thing in common: the expert team and superb Negronis.

โž‹ The Oyster Festival // 20 & 21 September

Last year marked the first Oyster Festival in Amsterdam, kicking off what will be an annual event at Levenslang. This year it’s even bigger, with not one but two days of salty indulgence. On Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 September, the festival takes place, officially launching the oyster season.

The festival is designed for oyster lovers to enjoy various types of oysters, paired drinks, and related products. With vendors such as Aqua Mossel-Triton, the Oesterij, The Oyster Show, and Oestronomie, an oyster paradise opens for visitors to experience all shapes and sizes. More info & tickets >>

โžŒ UNSEEN // 20 to 22 September

This weekend marks the 12th edition of the Unseen Photo Fair. From Friday 20 to Sunday 22 September, the monumental Westergasterrein will once again be transformed into a large art gallery. Around 70 galleries and 65 independent publishers will showcase the latest developments in contemporary photography alongside unseen work. There’s also a book market featuring independent publishers of photography-related publications, with exhibitors from all over the world. More info & tickets >>

โž These places have just opened and more restaurant news:

  • Have you been to the new Stack’s Deli yet? The hotspot for comforting sandwiches and the tastiest pastries and donuts. More info >>
  • Barlotta is opening a sister location! This weekend, Charcuteria opens on the Czaar Peterstraat. More info >>
  • Interested in Sake? Then youโ€™ll want to be at Utage Sakebar on 19 September for an evening full of unique tastings. More info >>
  • KID in De Pijp is launching lunch this weekend, which is a great reason to return or to try out their delicious Asian bites for the first time! More info >>

โžŽ Klassiek op het Amstelveld // 20 & 21 September

With a glass of wine from Cafรฉ Marcella in hand, enjoy the free classical concerts at Amstelveld. Not bad, right? This Friday and Saturday, Klassiek op het Amstelveld returns with a variety of beautiful concerts. Thereโ€™s even a special kids program in the afternoon. In a city where everything seems to be getting more expensive by the day, I hope that initiatives like these remain. Want to know more? Check out the program here >>
