The best France has to offer, with a Dutch touch and the leading role for high-quality wines. At Bistrot Les Zazous Amsterdam, they do things a little differently. And so KNSM Island has a brand new hotspot you really want to check out.
Why you want to visit Bistrot Les Zazous Amsterdam
With Robert Braam – a renowned catering entrepreneur and wine connoisseur – as co-owner, you can be sure that the wine list of his new business will be good. This is the case at Bistrot Les Zazous Amsterdam, located on the KNSM Island. A special place where mostly homes are located. Braam thought the neighborhood could use some commotion, and so it happened. The typical French restaurant recently opened, where classics and modern dishes alternate. The interior is as classic as the food and wines: typical wooden bistro chairs, small tables and a rustic atmosphere dominate the business, where vegan restaurant Bonboon was previously located (which moved to the Jordaan).

Menu Bistrot Les Zazous
We simply won’t say no to French classics in a living room setting. And we don’t have to at Les Zazous in Amsterdam East, because they always serve it there—every day (at least from noon on Wednesday to Friday). The classics include steak tartare, oysters, snails, and the Niçoise salad (a favorite!). You’ve also come to the right place for typical French charcuterie and a cheese board.
The menu isn’t huge, and there’s a good chance they did that with quality in mind. The fish comes from Jan van As (a well-known fishmonger in Amsterdam and the surrounding area), the meat from Nice to Meat, the bread from Mama bakery in Zwanenburg, and the cheeses are from l’Amuse. The chef is – just like the entrepreneurs – no stranger to the Amsterdam catering world; the French Vincent García gained experience at Krasnapolsky and the Conservatorium Hotel, among others. And believe us, you can taste it. At Bistrot Les Zazous, you eat no-nonsense classics of the highest possible quality and drink wine that matches them seamlessly. So, even if the KNSM Island is not on your route, this place is worth a detour. And if not, there’s always Uber…
