Moche Amsterdam East: an ode to Peruvian cuisine.

Recently, Chef Christian Motte has brought Peruvian cuisine to Amsterdam. Moche Amsterdam has since become the hotspot of Amsterdam-Oost where you can dine and enjoy the finest ceviche our capital offers. In the building, we still remember as Mr. and Mrs. Watson (a vegan restaurant), you can now indulge in Modern Ceviche, Moche.

Interieur Moche

The menu and the interior of Moche Amsterdam have a Peruvian touch. Tiles with prints, striking lamps, and woven cane and wood chairs make you feel like you’re in a different universe for a while.

Menu Moche Amsterdam

Admittedly, we didn’t know that ceviche could be taken in so many directions. Fortunately, Christian Motte knows exactly what to do with it, and thus Moche Amsterdam was born. You may also recognize his name from NAZKA, which he previously established with Raul Lansink, or from Ceviche and Andina. The name Moche is a play on “Modern Ceviche,” which the establishment represents, and it also hints at the Moche, a pre-Columbian people who invented ceviche. After catching the fish, they allowed it to “cook” in fruit juice (especially passion fruit). When Columbus set foot in Peru, that citrus juice became the norm. Peruvian cuisine is a fusion of indigenous, Asian, African, and Spanish influences—you can taste it. At Moche Amsterdam, Chef Motte employs various techniques that result in exceptional flavor combinations. It’s a feast for both the eyes and the taste buds. Vegetarians must try the pointed cabbage & lumaca, while meat lovers will find satisfaction with the entrecote and duck on rice. At Moche, Chef Motte demonstrates that he can do much more than prepare fish.

The goal of the minds behind Moche Amsterdam? To take you on a “wild culinary journey.” Mission accomplished, as far as we’re concerned.
