5 x hotspots where you find the tastiest madeleines in Amsterdam

21 March 2024

If you google ‘madeleines Amsterdam,’ you’ll be overloaded with fresh bakeries and other places, but where should you go for the tastiest cakes in our capital? We went on a quest to find the best madeleines in Amsterdam, and you’ll find an overview below.

MADELEINES in AMSTERDAM

If only one sweet treat should be made in the world, let it be the madeleine. The cake is soft, subtly flavored, and always a good idea. And because one madeleine isn’t like the other, we’ve compiled a list of the tastiest madeleines in Amsterdam.

SCHEEPSKAMEEL

Madeleines as they should be: Restaurant Scheepskameel knows how to do it. Undoubtedly, you’ll find the tastiest madeleines in Amsterdam here, which they prepare themselves. They are freshly baked, warm, and served with matching cream. It doesn’t get better than this.

Building 024A, Kattenburgerstraat 5

POMPADOUR

Pompadour offers madeleines in various shapes and sizes, from chocolate-dipped to those with extra almond flakes. Even though there are (still) no TikTok lines, this is one of the best places to get a madeleine in the center of Amsterdam.

Huidenstraat 12

LE FOURNIL DE SÉBASTIEN

At Le Fournil de Sébastien, everything is prepared according to traditional French recipes and methods. From baguettes to croissants and madeleines: you can taste the attention, time, and love that went into them.

Olympiaplein 119

PETIT GÂTEAU

At Petit Gâteau, there’s so much choice that you might sometimes get lost in the options. Don’t let that discourage you, and go straight for your goal: their madeleines. Soft, well-flavored, and not too sweet – just how you like it.

Haarlemmerstraat 80

GEBROEDERS NIEMEIJER

Is there anything Gebroeders Niemeijer isn’t good at? We doubt it. This cute little place on Nieuwendijk has been a go-to destination for sourdough and the tastiest croissants in Amsterdam for years. Their madeleines are of the same quality and worth a try.
