Chang-I Amsterdam: delicious Asian food in Oud-Zuid

A foodie journey through Asia at Chang-I in Amsterdam

Anyone who, like me, loves Asian food should quickly add Chang-I to their Little Black Book. Originally a Chinese restaurant, you'll now find dishes from all over Asia on the menu. This restaurant is perfect for date night, in my opinion. It's dark and intimate, and the food is delicious. Chang-I is one of the more upscale Asian restaurants in Amsterdam, tucked away behind the Concertgebouw near Museumplein. You have to know it's there, otherwise you might not find it so easily. And although Chang-I Amsterdam is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year and is certainly not new, I still wanted to share this gem with you.

Chang-I's menu is packed with dishes perfect for sharing. I always appreciate that in Asian restaurants, as it allows you to sample a wide variety of dishes. We enjoyed a delicious four-course meal, with a variety of dishes each time. We started with cold appetizers: Thai salad with mango, smoked duck breast with kumquat marmalade, and a Vietnamese wrap filled with chicken thighs. Absolutely delicious!

You'll definitely want to try the hot appetizers at Chang-I Amsterdam. They have a variety of dim sum on the menu that are just a little bit more special than you're used to. Other appetizers not to miss include the duck trio, shrimp in tempura batter, and the scallops with flying fish roe.

I love noodles and fried rice, and of course, we eat them as a side dish with our main courses. The Thai fish stew is highly recommended, as is the rack of lamb with peanut sauce. Asian food is so delicious! If you still have room for dessert, you might as well share something, just like we did ;-). After an evening of extensive dining at Chang-I, I'm already secretly starting to fantasize about my next trip to Asia. Hong Kong or Thailand perhaps? Or maybe Bali again? Who knows what 2016 will bring! Until then, we'll definitely be returning to Chang-I for a culinary journey through Asia. A classic to remember!
