Dining at Taiko Cuisine in the Conservatorium Hotel in Amsterdam South is always a pleasure not only because of the fantastic, irresistible setting but also because of the unique dishes and changing menus. This year, Taiko has been around for nine years, and they are celebrating big time, including a new menu that is all about rice.

Why you should try Taiko Cuisine’s new menu

It’s a party! Every year, in honour of the Chinese New Year, Taiko Cuisine comes together to celebrate its birthday during the sparkling ‘Taiko New Year‘ event. During this special birthday, Chef Schilo van Coevorden reveals the ingredient leading in his kitchen for a year. This year, the focus is on rice, a choice that has ranged from the Red King Crab and the refined Hida Wagyu meat to spicy wasabi in previous years.

Earlier this year, Taiko was also named ‘Best Asian Restaurant 2023‘ by Gault & Millau, and they carry that title with gusto. Their dishes surprise with every visit, and even with ingredients that do not seem extremely special or unique at first glance (take rice), the chef knows how to prepare dishes that will blow your mind.

What’s on Taiko Cuisine’s new menu?

Rice is the rock star among grains; its roots are in Asia’s far east. Today, rice is a global favourite in the kitchen not only for its healthy properties but also for its versatility. Chef Schilo takes you on a culinary journey to Southeast Asia, where he makes rice an exclusive specialty. The menu for the Rice Year features dishes such as Nigiri Amai, Congee with local shellfish, and Wagyu Sake Kasu—a must for lovers of Asian cuisine.
