Sunday 7: Nina Pierson from SLA

8 March 2015

7 questions to Nina Pierson of our fav healthy spot SLA

Curious who’s behind the delicious salads from SLA? Meet Nina Pierson! This young (only 29 years old!) multitalented woman grew up in Thailand, but ever since her comeback in Amsterdam she has become a real entrepreneur. 3,5 years ago she started her first company PUP, together with her friend Annemarie van Gerrevink. A creative agency which still is her passion and gets her full attention. But together with her boyfriend Jop she also owns the popular salad bar SLA. This week in Sunday 7 she will share her favourite hotspots in Amsterdam!

My ideal Sunday..

“At 10.00 am I’m taking a yoga class at delight yoga. Afterwards I’m going for a tasty breakfast at Buffet van Odette together with Jop. (the omelet with truffel cheese is extremely delicious and the salad from 12.00 o’clock onwards is a must). We always take a book, newspaper or our Ipad with us so we’re able to read a bit. After breakfast we like to see a good movie in Cinecenter Amsterdam of de Filmhallen. But sometimes we also like to just walk around the city, or visit a museum. We end our day with a healthy homecooked homecooked meal”.

Hidden Gem

Happy Pig in Rosmarijnsteeg 12. They have the best biological buckwheat pancakes in town! The Turkish restaurant Divan is a real gem as well. At first sight it doesn’t look that special, but the dishes are extremely delicious! And also easy to share; since it’s possible to order half portions. A true recommendation for weekdays or a lazy Sunday. Last but not least a tip for the best massage in town: Kwikfi at the Elandsgracht. It’s clean and they give amazing full body massages with oil. Recently they also give facial massages which are really worth giving a try!”.

Shopping!

“The Nine Streets is my favourite shopping area! I’m a big fan of Scandinavian brands an the shops over there are selling a lot of them. For example We Are Labels en Hope. For my make-up I’m always going to C Cosmetics in the Herenstraat. And when I’m looking for a gift I know i will always find something at Anna + Nina. Also Geiten Wollen Winkel at the Utrechtsestraat just opened. Founded by two young women from Amsterdam with a heart for sustainable clothing.”

Favourite Neighbourhood

“My favourite neighbourhood is the border of the Pijp/ the beginning of Amsterdam East. There are so many nice spots over there! It makes it hard to decide where to go. Of course my first choice goes to SLA Ceintuurbaan.. We opened this restaurant in Juli 2013 and I still visit it 4 times a week. In the same street Coffee & Coconuts also recently opened. This is a great sport for coffee or lunch! And for the “authentic feeling” and alternative workspace I choose for the Ysbreeker. But this place is sharing the third spot with CousCous Club at the Ceintuurbaan. The best place to get a huge plate of couscous with fresh vegetables!”.

What I still want to do Amsterdam..

“I alaways have list with new spots I still want to visit. Recently I did a tourist boat tour over the canals of Amsterdam. And last summer Jop and I went to Broek & Waterland by bike, to visit the Landmarket. I would love to visit the Van Gogh Museum soon, since haven’t seen it since the renovation”.

Time for drinks!

“Hard one.. My favourite wine is a cooled Pinot Noir. The first time I tasted this one was at George at the Leidsegracht. Nowadays I often visit <style=”text-decoration: underline;”>Americano, Festina Lente or the Ysbreker for drinks. Olives are my favourite snack sometimes together with a cheese platter (The best can be found in the Foyer“.

Bucket List

“The first place to visit is without a doubt The Commissary in Los Angeles. You’re seated in a beautiful greenhouse (inspiration for SLA!) and everything is biological. I’m visiting this summer and already made a reservation”.
