This year, I visited a few pumpkin farms in The Netherlands for the first time, and what a delightful autumn outing it was. Now that the pumpkin season has begun, most pumpkins have already been harvested, but if you’re early, you can still pick pumpkins in some places. Pumpkin picking is a trend that originated in the United States, where this autumn activity is a staple in Halloween preparations.
It’s a fun activity to go with kids or friends to a pumpkin farm, select the most beautiful pumpkins, and buy them directly from the farmer. It’s a tradition we plan to continue every year! This month, I went on a lovely tour through North Holland on a pumpkin hunt and bought the most beautiful pumpkins with my son, Manuel, at Pumpkin Farm Bos.

At the pumpkin farms on this list, they sell pumpkins in all kinds of shapes, colours, and sizes. When buying a pumpkin, always ask if it’s a decorative pumpkin or if it’s edible. Keep in mind that pumpkins are a natural product, and the harvest varies each year. Furthermore, the period when pumpkins are available for sale at the farm stands might differ. Most pumpkin farms will be open for sale until around Halloween. Handy tip: check their social media channels for updates on what they still have in stock. Enjoy your visit!

Pluktuin Amstelveen
It might not be a farm, but the Pluktuin in Amstelveen has a field this year where kids can pick pumpkins. Their last sales day is October 29th, so keep an eye on their social media to check for availability! More information >>
Pompoenboerderij Bos – Opperdoes
Although Pompoenboerderij Bos started as a hobby, it has now become one of the most well-known pumpkin farms in North Holland. This family farm has been growing the most beautiful pumpkins in the region for over 30 years. During my tour of various pumpkin farms in North Holland, I found this one to be the most enjoyable. In the farm’s shop, they also sell other products from their land. The pumpkins are beautifully displayed in front of the barn and are offered at attractive prices. More information >>
De Marlequi – Warmenhuizen
The Marlequi is a farm in Warmenhuizen, North Holland. It is one of the largest pumpkin farms in the Netherlands. Every year, they open their farm for families and friends who want to pick and choose pumpkins. The Marlequi offers various pumpkins, so there’s something for everyone’s budget. More information >>

Pumpkin Farm Bregman is a pumpkin farm located in Noordbeemster. This pumpkin farm offers a wide variety of pumpkins and gourds for sale. During the fall, children can also enjoy fun events, activities, and workshops here! More information >>
De Swaan – Langedijk
In the fall, De Swaan in Langedijk is the place to be for a true pumpkin extravaganza. You can pick your pumpkins and attend a workshop to learn everything about creating the perfect Halloween pumpkin. Besides buying pumpkins, you can also purchase delicious local products at De Swaan or enjoy a nice lunch or drink, while the children paint pumpkins. In addition to pumpkins, this play farm offers various activities throughout the year. More information >>
Pompoenboerderij Onderdijk
Now that autumn has arrived, you can visit Pumpkin Farm Onderdijk for various pumpkins and gourds. They take the Halloween theme very seriously, and you’ll find decorations all over the farm to get you into the spooky spirit. In the large barn, you can buy not only pumpkins but also pre-made baskets. It’s clear that this pumpkin farm is popular, as I noticed the signs saying DO NOT TOUCH THE STEMS quite frequently. It did take away a bit of the joy of pumpkin shopping, so parents, be warned, haha. However, what they do here that’s really fun is the workshops they offer during the autumn holidays for kids to carve pumpkins at the tables in the barn. More information >>

Monique’s Pumpkin Factory – Lisse
Do you want to buy beautiful pumpkins or pick your own in Lisse? Then Monique’s Pumpkin Factory (although it’s not really a farm) is a great place to remember. Monique and her team grow a large number of pumpkins every year in various sizes and varieties. These pumpkins can be purchased at the ‘Pumpkin Store’ in the garden next to their house. The pumpkins are often sold out before Halloween, so keep an eye on the website for updates about the harvest and sales. Also, they have a flower picking garden, and you can check on Instagram to see what’s available to pick depending on the season. More information >>

Groentehof Poelen – Groesbeek
Searching for a place to buy pumpkins in Gelderland? Groentehof Poelen in Groesbeek is a pumpkin farm that sells pumpkins during autumn and offers pumpkin picking. The picking days are indicated on their website because it’s not available throughout the entire season. At this pumpkin farm, you can enjoy some food and drinks on the terrace after selecting your pumpkins. More information >>

Pumpkin Farm Het Akkertje offers you and your family or friends the opportunity to pick gourds, decorative fruits, and pumpkins every year on the second weekend of September. Ook bij Boederijwinkel Frijns kun je zelf pompoenen kopen rechtstreeks van de boer. Naast de normale groenten en fruit kun je hier tijdens het pompoenseizoen terecht voor pompoenen en kallebassen in heel wat verschillende kleuren, maten en vormen. Sanders is een winkel en teler waar ze normaal gesproken exotische groenten verkopen. Ze zijn gespecialiseerd in het telen van groenten uit landen zoals China, Suriname en Thailand. In het najaar kleurt de schuur achter oranje! Ieder jaar plant Sanders namelijk meer dan 200 speciale soorten pompoenen van over de hele wereld aan. Ze zijn hier gespecialiseerd in pompoenen en kalebassen die uitgestald staan om zelf uit te zoeken. Zoek er één uit voor de herfsttafel of om lekker mee te koken!
