Maritozzi has been a real sensation in our country for some time now. And it’s not surprising because there’s nothing quite like this Italian delicacy for those who love sweet treats. We have looked into this delicacy, including where you can find the best maritozzi in Amsterdam.

Maritozzi Amsterdam: what is it and where can you find it

What exactly is Maritozzi? Anyone who has visited Rome will undoubtedly come home with a slight obsession for this sweet bun. In Italy, they eat maritozzi for breakfast, but we prefer to have it with coffee to avoid a sugar rush in the early morning. Maritozzi is a bun made of brioche dough, filled with a sweet, creamy filling that can vary in flavor. Vanilla is a classic, but nowadays we see them with savory fillings (like at Metro, see below) or pistachio, chocolate, or rose. The choice is vast, and this classic Italian delicacy even has some resemblance to our traditional Dutch pudding bun but is made with delicious brioche. And believe us, it’s much tastier than its Dutch counterpart.

Salvo Amsterdam

At Salvo Amsterdam, you are at the right place for a delicious, classic maritozzi. The bakery, founded by an Italian – as it should be – offers a wide range of flavors. Salvo is the most well-known seller of maritozzi in Amsterdam, but we expect it won’t be long before the city is filled with them. Meanwhile, you won’t hear us complaining because Salvo is the place to go for Italian classics.
