Lupe, Amsterdam West: the best hotspot for authentic Mexican dishes

With the arrival of Lupe last year, Amsterdam’s Bos en Lommer district gained a new Mexican restaurant. Discover the South American hotspot in Amsterdam-West, where you enjoy authentic Mexican dishes on weekdays and indulge in an extensive brunch on weekends.

Lupe Amsterdam

Authentic Mexican dishes and unique cocktails; doesn’t that sound like music to your ears? At Lupe Amsterdam, your Mexican dreams come true. And no, you won’t find paintings of Frida Kahlo on the walls, nor will the window sills be filled with cacti. Pedro and Juan Mouneu seek the true, authentic Mexico with Lupe, where these decorative accessories seem to be of secondary importance. The main focus is on creating a great atmosphere and offering Mexico has best, from an extensive cocktail menu to a dinner selection that will make your mouth water. It’s a truly modern taqueria, according to the owners.

The brothers are, by the way, old acquaintances in the Amsterdam hospitality world. For twenty years (!), they ran Los Pilones in Amsterdam Center. It was a place mainly frequented by tourists, and it was time to create a cozier spot that locals would love. And so it happened. When you enter the establishment, you will invariably be greeted in Spanish by Juan behind the bar.

Menu Lupe

Lupe’s menu mainly consists of smaller dishes to be shared at the table, just as they do in Mexico. This way, their guests can taste everything Mexico offers; that’s the idea. On weekdays, they serve the most delicious tortillas in the city, and on weekends, they offer much-needed relief from a hangover with dishes like huevos rancheros and chilaquiles. And if that hangover still doesn’t go away, you can always order an extra cocktail (such as the popular Hibiscus Margarita).
