Esh Pitaria & Bar Amsterdam: a great spot in Oud-Zuid with freshly baked pitas

Where Martinot once was located, Esh Amsterdam opened last year – a pitaria and bar where owners and brothers Ilan and Joël Benamara honor their Israeli roots. And so Oud-Zuid suddenly there is a nice, tasty hotspot.

Why you should visit Esh Amsterdam

Martinot unfortunately had to close its doors in 2022 due to a major renovation of the building. However, the owners saw an opportunity to start a new business in the same location after the extensive renovation. And so, last year, Martinot made way for Esh – a restaurant with the same concept, but with a new look. The interior is modern and cozy, with atmospheric lamps and plenty of plants. It's a place where you can linger for a late dinner on a Friday evening or sit down in your sweatpants during the week. A place for everyone, in other words.

Menu Esh Amsterdam: from fresh hummus to pita and pizza

Throw those New Year's resolutions out the window when you visit Esh Amsterdam, because resisting their delicacies (like the wafer-thin pizzas) is impossible. The pita and pizza concept the brothers previously pioneered at Martinot remains the same at Esh, only their Israeli roots are better reflected in the new format. Hummus (perhaps the tastiest you've ever tasted!), homemade falafel, and their famous pitas play a major role. At Esh, they distinguish themselves from other Israeli restaurants by preparing everything fresh, and you can taste it. Also fun: if there are two of you (or more), try a chef's choice, featuring "Best of Esh."

Besides Israeli delicacies, they have a menu full of unique drinks. Of course, they offer classic cocktails, but there's also plenty of choice for non-alcoholic drinkers. Try the gazoz – homemade sodas that are anything but sweet. If you'd like an alcoholic drink, try the Arak Attack – it's every bit as strong as its name suggests.
