Brunch is always a good idea. Because brunch basically just means enjoying a late & leisurely ‘breakfast’. Often preceded by a good lie-in, making it a beloved Sunday activity. So here’s a great list for the weekend: 16 x the best brunch spots in Amsterdam East!

Ode aan de Amstel
Fancy dining by the water in East? Then you should head to Ode aan de Amstel. On the site where Riva once was, you can now enjoy an accessible all-day menu. Do you prefer to go all out with multiple courses? Then opt for the chef’s menu! They are open every day from 11:00 for lunch, and on Sundays, they also offer a lovely Sunday Brunch.

Breman Brasserie
In the second Hoxton hotel in our city, you’ll find Breman Brasserie, where you can brunch like we’re not used to in the Netherlands. Think quinoa granola, a BB croque madame, smashed avocado toast, butter waffles with fruit compote, or wild mushrooms with scrambled eggs. You’ll want to order everything and fill the table with it all.

Badhuis
Before opening earlier this year, the owners asked the residents what they hoped the renewed Badhuis would become, and most agreed: a place that stands for connection. In whatever form that may take: from communal game nights to music programming to a ‘home away from home.’ And so it came to be because Badhuis is now the cosiest hotspot on the Javaplein, where you can enjoy a lovely brunch – inside or on the large terrace. And while you’re there, go for the tuna Niçoise sandwich.

Turbo
A sister establishment to De Tros (see below) and a welcome addition to Amsterdam East: Turbo. Turbo Amsterdam is a nod to the owners’ favourite car: the Saab Turbo. Unfortunately, it’s no longer in production, but Turbo Amsterdam is very much alive and modern. This is a hangout spot where you’ll want to linger all day. Luckily, you can, as they serve coffee, brunch, snacks, and dinner. Their unique and culinary croquette sandwich is a must.

De Tros
Neighbourhood café De Tros is a real all-rounder; from midday you’ll want to stick around until late at night. We share that opinion with many others, as De Tros is always pleasantly busy. Their coffee is the best in the area, and the brunch dishes are just as good to die for. The steak tartare is a hit, but also try the asparagus with beurre noisette.

De Ysbreeker
On the Weesperzijde in Amsterdam East, you’ll find grand-café de Ysbreeker. Not trendy, but a spot that locals keep coming back to. They’re open every day from 08:00, so perfect for early birds. You can start your day here with a cup of coffee from the espresso bar, but also if you’re in the mood for a lovely brunch, this is the place to be. From poached eggs with salmon and hollandaise sauce to granola with coconut and yoghurt, they serve it all here. In the summer, they have one of the best terraces in Amsterdam East.

The Cottage
The Cottage is an institution in East and the surrounding area, as few places are as relaxed and good as this one. They’ve recently expanded with a deli for take-away of their delicious recipes and ingredients, but brunching is still done in their restaurant. The scones are a hit, but the avocado toast is also tasty. Also, it’s great to visit with kids!

Massalia Restobar
Like Leo (see below), Massalia Restobar is located at Beukenplein. Massalia is the Greek name for Marseille, a city in southern France originally founded by the Greeks. Those happen to be the roots of chef Angelo Kremmydas, who is also at the helm of the popular Gitane. He already introduced Amsterdam-West to the special flavours of his homeland, and now it’s East’s turn.

Greek Embassy
On the Weesperzijde, you’ll find the Greek Embassy, where coffee and Greek traditions (and delicacies) come together. They are known for their Greek comfort food, and that’s precisely what you’ll be craving during a weekend brunch. Tip: try the Greek ‘kayanas’ eggs.

Leo
Leo Amsterdam is the new cosy pub in Amsterdam-East, on Beukenplein. From early morning until late at night, this will become your second home in East, mark our words. Bistro Leo is the perfect start to your day with a good cup of coffee or an extensive brunch (or both, of course). For lunch, you can choose from various sandwiches and lunch dishes such as burrata with watermelon and classics like steak tartare.

Feed
Feed in Amsterdam East is a beautiful spot for an extensive brunch. Every Sunday, they host a Sunday Roast from 16:00 (for the late brunchers), and DJs and musicians regularly perform. It’s such a cosy spot with a real community feel. Brunch is available from Wednesday to Sunday from 11:00.

Le French Café
In the always lively and bustling Javastraat, you can visit Le French Café all day long. A modern French bistro where the menu is filled with the best of France and where you’ll feel like you’ve been transported to Paris. The interior is fantastic! The menu features delicious brunch dishes such as Eggs Benedict, steak tartare, and more. Want to stay for drinks after brunch? Then Le French Café is the place to be. The snack menu is so good that you might skip the main dinner course.

The Breakfast Club
Of course, The Breakfast Club on the Wibautstraat must not be missing. Here, you can get the all-time classics like pancakes and an English ‘breakfast’. And yes, all dishes can be boosted with cocktails & bubbles!

Green, greener, greenest, that’s the interior of Bar Botanique. The bar is green, the walls are green, and all the beautiful plants are green. There’s no doubt that you’ll find total relaxation here during your brunch.

Louie Louie
There is one very good reason to brunch at Louie Louie in East: the Louie Louie Torta Cubana. With chorizo, ham, pulled pork, avocado, tomato, jalapeño, cheddar, and smoked mozzarella (and yes, there are plenty of other delicious dishes on the menu). ;-)
