A low-key hip spot with great food in Williamsburg has got to be Allswell in New York!
This is a great place for everything. For eating with the parents, for a cozy dinner with the lover or a friends’ get together. The ambience is open and friendly, I like the funny wallpaper. The dark wooden bar, tables, stools and dimmed light (always a fan of low light places; we all just look a little bit better with a little bit less light) give it this cozy atmosphere. A super friendly waitress is our gal tonight and we wouldn’t want it any other way. I like her enthusiasm. You don’t get that a lot here. Well, that’s not entirely true. In Williamsburg they’re mostly incredibly friendly.
The squid ink risotto was really tasteful and my gnocchi (I think by now we can call me an expert on gnocchi) was great as well.
I’d say stop by around happy hour (1 dollar oysters!!!) and you’ll have a great evening. It’s a small restaurant and gets busy around dinner and lunch time. Try to come early and beat the crowds. And try to get a table far from the door, because it gets quite cold there in winter…
This is also a great spot for brunch. You were probably already walking around in Williamsburg anyway, enjoying its small village charm with a hip city vibe so why don’t you just stop by and treat yourself on some Allswell…
