Izakaya Amsterdam: our all time favourite Japanese hotspot!

Yourlbb loves Izakaya in Amsterdam

I know, I know.. we wrote about Izakaya and the Sir Albert hotel before. But hey, we just love this hotspot and since we reviewed Izakaya over a year ago it was time for an ‘Izakaya revisited’ blog. When you ask me what the best modern Asian restaurant in Amsterdam is, my answer still is Izakaya. I love to come here for the great cocktails (also super good mocktails, without alcohol) and superb Japanese food.

The menu consists of a selection of Asian style shared dining dishes and some main dishes. Since we wanted to try and taste as many flavours as we could my love and I went for the shared dining. Or actually I should say shared lunching ;-). On the extensive menu you will find warm dishes from tempura to gyoza and a very good selection from the raw bar. We kick off the lunch with a cocktail. Of course I order my favourite one: the Bloody Mary.

I’m so lucky that me and my boyfriend have exactly the same taste when it comes to food… We’re food twins! So we didn’t doubt long and enjoyed a selection of 6 dishes to share. This is perfect for a lunch (and If you lunch late you don’t even have to cook at night anymore ;-). We had the: popcorn shrimp tempura, fried rice with with spicy tuna, spicy tuna maki (uhm yes… we LOVE spicy tuna…), soft shell crab maki, crispy duck roll and Wagyu beef gyoza with foie. All recommended for you to try yourself!

The interior design is modern but warm and I’m always so much in love with the cute light blue plates with blossom flowers on them. When I spot these somewhere I’m going to buy them to use at home. We sat close to the window on one of the first sunny Sundays. The light shining in through the high windows… just perfect!

Ok, I will stop raving about my all time favourite Izakaya now.. I think the photos talk for themselves ;-).

Have you been to Izakaya? Do you like this place just as much as we do?
