The best neighbourhoods in istanbul: the hipster, the famous and the Asian!

Istanbul has, aside from an European an an Asian area, many different kinds of neighborhoods and districts. Sultanahmet for example is where you can find the famous Blue Mosque, Aya Sofia and Grand Bazaar. It’s the tourist attraction there. But you probably get that as a travel blogger I’m actually looking for other neighbourhoods. The neighbourhoods that stand out, the neighbourhoods that are getting trendier and the neighbourhoods with the best hotspots. Are you going to Istanbul soon and do you want to know which neighbourhoods are really worth the visit? Then read this blog about the 3 best neighbourhoods in Istanbul!

>> The hipster neighbourhood from Istanbul: Karaköy >>

There’s no other way for me but to start off with the hipster neighbourhood in Istanbul: Karaköy! You can find it at the most South part of the borough Beyoglu. This neighbourhood near the Bosphorus used to be a red light district. And old neighbourhood at the harbour. But nowadays you can find the best restaurants, coffee places and bars here. Drink your coffee at Karabatak, have your lunch at Pim, dine at Gaspar and have some drinks at Unter. You can literally find a new hotspot at every corner of the streets! And don’t forget to check out the cool street art in the side streets!

>> The most famous neighbourhood Istanbul: Taksim >>

In the borough Beyoglu you can also find the neighbourhood Taksim. And of course also the Taksim Square where there were big protests only a couple of years ago. Here you can go shopping at the shopping street of the city: Istiklal Cadessi. But this is also the place to go out. Cafes, clubs and rooftop bars everywhere. My favourite places are Mama Shelter, Münferit and the Ara Cafe. Do you feel like being a little bit tourist-y (or are your feet hurting from all the walking)? Then get into the Beyoglutram here and let it show you the shopping streets. Cheesy but actually quite fun too!

>> The most fun Asian neighbourhood of Istanbul: Kadiköy >>

When you’re in Istanbul then the Asian area of the city is really a must-visit. Take the ferry to cross the Bosphorus (and enjoy the feeling of the wind blowing through your hair) and go to Kadiköy! Kadiköy is one of the oldest city boroughs and you’ll find out that the atmosphere here is totally different from the European area. More relaxed, quiet, authentic. Visit the Bazaar here or the fish market, go have a picnic at the boulevard or dine at a good fish restaurant.
