17 June 2015

dinner in Istanbul? Check our 5 favo restaurants in Istanbul!

As a foodie I’m always looking for the best hotspots to eat when I’m traveling.  A list of my five favourite restaurants in Istanbul should therefore definitely be on Yourlb ! On the menu of the restaurants in Istanbul you namely find Mezes (or Mezzes): small dishes from Mediterranean cuisine. Perfect as an aperitif with a good cocktail or for dinner. Also perfect when you want to try several dishes or share some bites. The dishes usually consist of grilled meat, fish, vegetables and salads. Yummy! But off course I also tried several other dishes. Read all about it in this blog!

Close to the popular Taksim Square you find the Ara Cafe. A creative hotspot where art and coffee are combined. Wooden furniture, vintage lamps, jazz music at the background. And a very good menu with salads, snacks, pastas and grilled fish and meat dishes.

In the hipster district Karaköy you find the trendy restaurant Unter! An all day hotspot for brunch, dinner and cocktails! Here you eat various egg dishes, pancakes or muesli for breakfast or lunch. In the evening you can enjoy risotto, grilled octopus, mini burgers, duck confit or an artichokes salad for example. Unter is next to a restaurants also a nice bar to go in the evening for some drinks. On the weekends a DJ turns fine tunes here while you order a strawberry Mojito.

Munferit Istanbul

Münferit | restaurants in Istanbul

Münferit is a popular restaurant – and slightly on the expensive side. But, here you eat delicious Mezes! And dinner here gives you a reason to pull your best dress out of the closet ;-) I had a full evening here and tried 10 different appetizers. Fish, meat and grilled vegetables… All so tasty! Outside you can sit on a nice little terrace. Münferit is also a very nice bar where you go in the evening for a glass of wine or some cocktails.
Münferit, Yeni Carsi Cad. 19, Beyoglu, Istanbul

Mama Shelter Istanbul - restaurants in Istanbul

Mama Shelter is a hotel but has the look and feel of a luxury hostel. It looks really cool! And … they also have a very good menu! Fried calamari, smoked salmon, steak and hot dog for example. But there are also several vegan options. Unfortunately it was too chilly to eat on the rooftop, but do you have better luck? Then surely eat a bite while looking out over the great city there!
Mama Shelter, Istiklal Cad. 50-54, Beyoglu, Istanbul

Baltazar Istanbul - restaurants in Istanbul

Sometimes you just want a good, juicy burger. In Karaköy you find Baltazar; a man’s hotspot. Here they have only burgers and other meat dishes on the menu coming from the grill. Dishes had a real American smokey flavour. Delicious with a portion of thick fries. Tip: secretly order a beer here! ;-) I can’t explain why, but you’ll know once you ordered one!
