Restaurant Dwars in Amsterdam: a unique beer & gastronomy experience

28 October 2015

Restaurant Dwars proves: beer and dinner is a perfect match!

In a small street in the center of the Jordaan you can find this unique spot restaurant Dwars. This restaurant is situated in a historical building from the seventeenth century. As soon as you walk in you feel the warm atmosphere from the Jordaan area. The white walls have old black- and white photographs of the former street scenes in the Jordaan. A typical Amsterdam restaurant!

The menu at restaurant dwars

Jo (the Chef cook) is from the south part of the Netherlands and that brings in just that little bit of extra. The food is Burgundian and mostly all products used are local and organic. The menu is changing every week and (big plus) there are only three choices! So no stress for the tough deciders (like me) and a guarantee that all the meals are prepared with great care and passion!

beer & food tasting

And what is so unique about Dwars? Dwars is completely oriented at beer & gastronomy! As a real wine lover I was amazed hoe well beer tastes with food! And with beer I mean Dutch special beers. Of course I drink a beer once in a while (mostly white), but after the beer & food tasting at Restaurant Dwars I’ve become a special beer fan. And so it seems….dark beer is super tasty! The tasting was for ladies only and we all agreed on one thing: more woman should drink beer. The time that beer was a men’s drink is over.

At restaurant Dwars they know exactly which beer goes with which dish. The waitress loves to tell you all about it at your own table! You drink your beer (very fancy) from a wine glass and you share the bottle with your lover or friends. The  taste sensation off your dish mixed with your matching beer is incredible. My favourite is Surf & Turf of grilled Hollandse Nieuwe, baked black pudding, tomato ice cream, baked apple with Amsterdam union, apple syrup and piccalilli mayonnaise combined with the beer ” Speciaal” van Oedipus! The ” Honing” from Budels beer is to good with dessert, nice and sweet!

So, if you want to try something new? Take your friends to restaurant Dwars! This is a great time because it’s also the season of bock beer… October is all about bock beer, this flavouring beer fits perfectly with fall dishes. This is guaranteed to be an unique beer & gastronomy experience!
