UPDATE: Restaurant 5&33 in Amsterdam, a favourite for Italian food!

7 September 2016

You’ll want to taste this: the italian flavours of restaurant 5&33

In cities like New York and London hotelrestaurants are HOT. But as a local in Amsterdam you tend to forget them. And that’s a shame! Because did you know that you can have really good Italian food at restaurant 5&33? And because we at Your Little Black Book usually write about the newest hotspots in town I thought it was time to stop by some of my classics for an update of the blog. Thanks to the warm interior and the view of the open kitchen 5&33 is one of my favourite addresses whenever I’m looking for a centrally located restaurant with good Italian food. The Italian cuisine is one of the best there is for me anyway.

Every region has its own significant flavours and at 5&33 you taste the Sicilian influences of Chef Nadia Frisina. Not only are the dishes prepared in an authentic Sicilian way, lots of the ingredients originate from Sicily. As a foodie I love to get some information with the dishes and believe me when I say that Chef Nadia speaks about this with so much passion.

Do you eat with a group on a regular basis? Then for sure it’s nice to reserve the large table by the fireplace at 5&33.

If you – just like me – are going out for dinner just the two of you, I personally like the tables in the intermediate section the most. You have an intimate seating here, because there are only tables for two and you have a view of the kitchen as well as of the rest of the restaurant.

I recently went to 5&33 with my friend Emily for an extensive dinner. Naturally we start the evening festively with an aperitif. A glass of champagne for me and for Em one of the newest cocktails. The Mi Negrita is an own variant on the well-known Italian Negroni. If you love Campari you’ve got to taste this one!

The concept of restaurant 5&33 is shared dining. I always love that when you’re with two, because the more I can taste the better ;-). There is a wide selection from small and larger dishes to share. Like you’re visiting an Italian family dor dinner and they put everything on the table.

A dish that I always order whenever I’m at 5&33 is the burrata. My evening is not complete without it! It’s so good with different tomatoes and that creamy flavour. YUM! Another one of my favourites as a starter is the couscous salad, prepared in an authentic Sicilian way. If you’re into oysters you definitely don’t want to miss out on the 5&33 variant of the Rockefeller Oysters. They’re SO good, chances are you’ll order another portion.

Among the pastas the papardelle with ragout of wild pig and the pasta carbonara with tuna are really good. Plus they serve it very nicely in small pans. And if you’re a fan of truffle you must try the taglioni!

Make sure to save some room for dessert because the pastry chef of 5&33 certainly knows what he’s doing. What’s also really nice, is that you can choose a cocktail that’s design to complement the flavours of the dessert. It was a lovely culinary trip through Italy, dining here so extensively. Will I see you around the corner? The corner of 5 and 33? Buen appetito!
