Zo van de airport door naar dit zaakje om soup dumplings en zó veel meer te proeven! Dat is wat ik noem een soft landing 😉 <3
In Taipei ga je naar een Soy Milk Shop voor ontbijt. Warme soy milk die je eet in een bowl en stoommandjes met de lekkerste dumplings en baozi’s. Je kunt mij echt wakker maken voor dit soort ontbijtjes. Deze lokale ontbijttentjes komen in alle soorten en maten, van Michelin-recommended adressen tot hole-in-the-wall-kraampjes.
De meeste soy milk shops zijn al vroeg (en soms zelfs 24 uur per dag) open en dit zijn de gerechten die je wilt proeven:
🥄 Warm soy milk
🥢 Soup dumplings (je kunt vaak kiezen tussen pork en veggies)
🥢 Pork baozi
🥢 Youtiao (油條 - een soort fried donut stick)
🥢 Youtiao (油條) w/ pork floss & rice

TIP: delen is een goed idee om zoveel mogelijk te proeven, want de porties zijn (vaak) groot.

Nét terug uit Catalonië en ik dacht: ik ga direct wat tips delen.
Tijdens onze roadtrip bleven we twee nachtjes in de Ebrodelta. Een ontzettend leuke stop voor families én foodies, waar van alles te doen is.
· Een boottochtje naar het Musclarium is een must! Hier eet je oesters en mosselen zo van de farm, midden op zee.
· Bewonder de flamingo’s en zwarte ibissen die hier het hele jaar door te vinden zijn.
· In de Ebrodelta wordt het hele jaar door rijst verbouwd. Voor paella, maar Kensho maakt er ook sake en miso van! Je kunt hen bezoeken tijdens een tasting.
· Fietsen langs de rijstvelden, kanoën op de Ebro-rivier en naar verschillende stranden. Het was nu nog net te koud, maar er is van alles te doen.
· De stadjes zijn heel low key en niet zo spannend, maar je kunt er wel fantastisch lekker lokaal eten. Van het door Michelin bekroonde Les Moles* tot lokale eethuisjes als Vermuteria Bonmarisc en Lo Tinglado. We aten heel veel vis, maar ook fritters van anemoon (een first!).
Nu back to work en ga ik een uitgebreide travel guide maken van deze roadtrip door Catalonië, maar deze tips wil je alvast bewaren voor een volgend avontuur.

5 X hotels in het Portugese Alentejo om bij weg te dromen
São Lourenço do Barrocal, Alentejo
Dit is een onvergetelijke plek om te logeren. Het São Lourenço do Barrocal ligt aan de voet van het middeleeuwse dorp Monsaraz, vlakbij het Alqueva-meer op een landgoed van 780 hectare. Omgeven door de natuur kun je hier volledig opladen. Geniet van de Portugese keuken en breng ook beslist een bezoekje aan de wijnmakerij (er zijn oneindig veel wijngaarden in dit gebied) van deze accommodatie.

Quinta Da Comporta, Alentejo
Dit ruim opgezette en zeer stijlvol ingerichte wellness boutique resort ligt in Carvalhal, op 2,3 km van het strand van Comporta, dat beschikt over een geweldig 12 km lang zandstrand. Vanuit je hotelkamer kijk je uit op het zwembad en het eindeloze groen van de omgeving. Pak de fiets en trek erop uit om de omliggende plaatsjes Pego, Carvalhal, Brejos, Torre, Possanco en Carrasqueira te ontdekken.

Omgeven door niets dan groen vind je in Grândola (in het Portugese district Setúbal) het luxe Sobreiras Alentejo Country Hotel. Veel heb je niet nodig. Het knappe hotel is van alle gemakken voorzien. ’s Ochtends een uitgebreide ochtendwandeling in de omgeving, ‘s middags pootje baden aan het zwembad, ’s avonds knus bij de open haard en daarna relaxed en voldaan je strak opgemaakte bed in. And repeat!

Dat ze in Alentejo nog alle ruimte hebben, blijkt ook weer uit de opzet van dit resort. De kamers zijn groot én beschikken over een eigen patio, het – met kurk beklede – hoofdgebouw is ruim van opzet, evenals de eetzaal en de grote groene tuin. Het ecohotel beschikt bovendien over een eigen spa & wellness-centrum. Bezoek vanuit hier een dag het stadje Évora, met zijn Romeinse tempel en indrukwekkende kathedraal.

Nog iets dichter bij Évora, namelijk op 4 km afstand, ligt 5-sterren hotel Convento do Espinheiro. Zowel van buiten als van binnen is dit hotel indrukwekkend en one of a kind. Gevestigd in een gerenoveerd 15e-eeuws klooster is het hotel omgeven door prachtige tuinen met een oppervlakte van maar liefst 80.000 m². Geniet van de Portugese keuken en verdwaal in de gigantische wijnkelder van deze accommodatie. Een unieke ervaring gegarandeerd!
