Ice cream date, anyone?
One of the newest openings at Amstel1 is De Boule De Boule, an ice cream and pastry parlour just behind Waterlooplein. After trying it, I can confirm: the ice cream is really, really good.
𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗩𝗜𝗕𝗘
After seeing their Instagram, you might think of places like Folderol in Paris, the spot that became famous for pairing ice cream with wine.
But De Boule De Boule feels different. Less destination wine bar, more day-time neighbourhood café where you can stop by for homemade ice cream, a pastry, coffee and, yes, a glass of wine.
Inside you’ll find shelves filled with vinyl records, a display of freshly made ice cream and homemade pastries crafted by two in-house pastry chefs.
𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗖𝗥𝗢𝗪𝗗
Amstel1 is still being discovered by Amsterdam and it was a little quiet during our visit. I expect the vibe to only get better as more shops open and people find their way here. I’m especially curious to see how it feels this weekend with the market taking over the area for the first full weekend. This covered location with a courtyard feel is incredibly promising.

• Olive oil & basil ice cream with sea salt
• Chocolate ice cream with hazelnut topping
• Paired with a glass of Chardonnay and an orange wine.
All of the ice cream is made in-house and completely vegan. If nobody had told me, I honestly wouldn’t have guessed.
𝗪𝗛𝗬 𝗬𝗢𝗨𝗥 𝗟𝗜𝗧𝗧𝗟𝗘 𝗕𝗟𝗔𝗖𝗞 𝗕𝗢𝗢𝗞 𝗟𝗢𝗩𝗘𝗦 𝗜𝗧
The ice cream is excellent, but what makes De Boule De Boule interesting is that it’s more than an ice cream shop. It’s a place for coffee, pastries, a glass of wine or drinks after a performance at the Stopera.
And yes, I’m already planning to go back to try more flavours, but next time in the evening for a dessert after dinner elsewhere. Just to see how the space changes throughout the day. What I would order then? Very curious about the White Coffee ice-cream!

Hello June!
The first weekend of the month is looking very good if you ask me. Think wine festivals, vintage markets, oysters, live jazz, street art and a ridiculous amount of new restaurants to put on your radar.
This weekend I’m especially excited about Bacchus Wine Festival in the Amsterdamse Bos, Sunday Market at Westergas, the oysters & brocante afternoon at Le French Café and Red Light Jazz taking over hidden venues across the city centre.
Also fun: STRAAT Museum is hosting its first Women in Street Art Weekend at the NDSM-werf, Fort Negen is bringing back its cult-favourite pizza pop-up for two nights only, and if you’re heading to Noord anyway, it’s your last chance to cycle through Amsterdam’s Oatly Bike Thru before it disappears on June 7.
And for those always looking for new places to try: The Jollof Club, Café de Vos, Bar How and the terrace of Monne (right on the Amstel!), are all brand new and worth knowing about.

From the IJ-Hallen and Pure Markt in Park Frankendael to the Sunday Market at Rokin and treasure hunting at the Amstelveld Antiques Market.
And in Noord you’ll want to stay all day, because Stripfest is taking over the Hamerkwartier with food, music, workshops and parties at spots like FC Hyena, Skatecafé and Oedipus.

Life lately.
Soms heb ik van die momenten waarop ik even stilsta bij hoe bijzonder dit allemaal eigenlijk is.
Dat ik ruim 14 jaar geleden begon met een blog waarop ik gewoon mijn favoriete adressen wilde delen. Dat Your Little Black Book inmiddels zoveel mensen inspireert om nieuwe plekken te ontdekken. En dat ik nog steeds nieuwe bestemmingen mag verkennen, zoals deze maand Taiwan.
Wat ik misschien nog wel het leukste vind? Dat jullie overal met me mee naartoe gaan. Naar nieuwe restaurants, hotels, steden en landen. Maar ook naar de meer persoonlijke momenten tussendoor.
De lieve berichten die ik dagelijks krijg, de tips die jullie terugsturen, de plekken die jullie ontdekken via de guides. Het blijft bijzonder om te zien hoeveel mensen al jaren onderdeel zijn van deze community.

Another long weekend and honestly… Amsterdam is really showing off right now.
This Pinkster weekend is packed with festivals, food markets, and summer events all over the city. Think Asian street food at Art of Taste on Museumplein, four days of Lepeltje Lepeltje at the NDSM-werf, and so much more.
Also on my mom radar this weekend: family festival GOLD at the Amsterdamse Bostheater, Ridderweekend at Muiderslot, and Pinksterweekend at Jeugdland Amsterdam.

Zo van de airport door naar dit zaakje om soup dumplings en zó veel meer te proeven! Dat is wat ik noem een soft landing 😉 <3
In Taipei ga je naar een Soy Milk Shop voor ontbijt. Warme soy milk die je eet in een bowl en stoommandjes met de lekkerste dumplings en baozi’s. Je kunt mij echt wakker maken voor dit soort ontbijtjes. Deze lokale ontbijttentjes komen in alle soorten en maten, van Michelin-recommended adressen tot hole-in-the-wall-kraampjes.
De meeste soy milk shops zijn al vroeg (en soms zelfs 24 uur per dag) open en dit zijn de gerechten die je wilt proeven:

In Amsterdam-Oost is Le French Café al een waar begrip en dankzij een goede plek (het terras heeft lang zon) geldt dat nu ook voor de locatie in West. Een heerlijk terras, gezellige mensen en goede snacks. Kortom: alle ingrediënten voor een geslaagde borrel.

Dorus
Restaurant Dorus Amsterdam doet alles net even anders dan de rest. De zaak bestaat uit verschillende ruimtes, behangen met moderne kunst en sommige voorzien van enorme voetballen, die bij een tweede blik grote zitzakken blijken te zijn. Heerlijk voor een relaxte borrel.

Bon Burger
Bon Burger Amsterdam is een fijne plek in Amsterdam-West waar het beste van een wijn- en burgerbar samenkomt. Want wie zegt dat een burgerbar niet ook goede wijn kan schenken en een hip interieur kan hebben? Juist, bij Bon Burger hebben ze het begrepen.

Café Kompleet
Café Kompleet is een buurtcafé met alle ouderwetse karakteristieken van dien. Een biertje voor minder dan €3, een glas wijn voor onder de €5 – waar vind je dat tegenwoordig nog in de hoofdstad? Goed voor een budgetborrel, maar daar doe je de plek tekort mee. Het is hier gewoon goed en altijd gezellig.

De Zingende Zwaan
Bij De Zingende Zwaan is het altijd feest. Stap naar binnen en je voelt je welkom – alsof je er al jaren komt. Het is een typisch bruincafé, maar dan op z’n Wijmpje Beukers en dus origineel en steengoed.

Eigenaresse Anna Meyer putte inspiratie uit Zuid-Frankrijk en opende Eetcafé Edita (Amsterdam-West), vernoemd naar haar oma. Het is een fijne plek met goede wijnen waar je na de borrel blijft hangen voor een lekkere hap.

Barrica
Barrica Amsterdam is een sfeervol restaurant met goede wijn en even goed eten. Het draait hier om wijn, cocktails en shared dining, allemaal met een Spaanse twist.

Café Wilhelmina
Liefhebbers van Binnenvisser kunnen hun geluk niet op, want Oud-West heeft er een hotspot bij van dezelfde eigenaren. Bij Wilhelmina kun je de hele dag terecht, van koffie tot borrel en diner.

Buiten Café & Restaurant
Geen auto, maar wel trek in het strand? Geen probleem, want met de metro of op de fiets ben je zo bij BUITEN Strandcafé en Restaurant. De Sloterplas is in de zomer een prettige chaos van dagjesmensen, spelende kinderen, jonge gezinnen én gasten van BUITEN. Extra leuk: het is ook een officiële trouwlocatie.

Café Jacob
Van ontbijt tot diner en drankjes tot in de late uurtjes: bij Café Jacob Amsterdam vind je voor ieder wat wils. Jacob is zo dé hotspot in West die fungeert als een veelzijdige ontmoetings-, eet- en uitgaansplek. En ja, het is er extra gezellig rond borreltijd!

Gitane
Van ’s ochtends vroeg tot ’s avonds laat: bij Café Restaurant Gitane in Amsterdam-West, aan de Jan Pieter Heijestraat, kun je de hele dag terecht. Voor de kleine en grote trek, voor de borrel met natuurwijn of het broodnodige cafeïneshot – maar natuurlijk ook voor een goede vrijmibo.

De Biertuin
Uiteraard doen ze hun naam eer aan door altijd een ruime selectie bieren op tap te hebben. Zelf kun je ons er regelmatig op het terras vinden om te borrelen – ook omdat ze een van de beste uitgebreide snackkaarten hebben. Double win!

Neef van Fred
De Neef van Fred brengt een ode aan de bruine kroeg, zoals we er tal van kennen in Amsterdam. Deze plek voelt dan ook vertrouwd aan: de sfeer is informeel, de service is goed en het interieur lijkt zo uit een vervlogen tijd te komen. Voor ons is dit een gouden borrelplek in Amsterdam-West.

Voor koffie, lunch en natuurlijk een uitgebreide borrel moet je bij Abbey aan de Admiraal de Ruijterweg zijn. Deze plek is al jaren een begrip in West en omstreken. Ze werken met lokale ingrediënten en serveren gerechten zonder al te veel poespas – ideaal bij de borrel.

Brouwerij Troost
Pal in het (altijd gezellige!) Westerpark vind je Brouwerij Troost. Dit is zo’n spot waarvan je weet dat je er altijd goed zit. Het terras puilt vaak uit met gezellige locals en toeristen, maar ook binnen trek je de borrel zo de hele avond door. Natuurlijk hebben ze hier veel bieren op tap en in fles, maar ook voor niet-(bier)drinkers is er volop keuze.

Bij September in de Baarsjes werken ze met seizoensgebonden en lokale producten, waardoor je er iedere keer iets anders eet. Maar je kunt er ook terecht voor een goede borrel – wat alleen al bij het zien van de wijnkaart een goed idee is.

Fabus
Een écht goede wijnbar met wijnen uit Oost-Europa ontbrak nog in de hoofdstad, en wijnbar Fabus Amsterdam vond het hoog tijd om dat gat te dichten. Een fijne hotspot in Amsterdam-West waar je geniet van bijzondere wijnen in een knusse setting.

Lokaal van de Stad
Lokaal van de Stad is al sinds 2018 een hit in Amsterdam-West. Dat danken ze onder meer aan het altijd gezellige personeel, maar ook aan het enorme terras waar je lekker lang zon vangt.

Overdag kun je er heerlijk werken en lunchen, maar rond een uur of vier verandert deze plek in een gezellige oase waar vooral geborreld wordt en waar je het liefst blijft hangen voor het eten. Leuk met collega’s of groepen vrienden.

Waterkant
Last but not least: er gaat maar weinig boven Waterkant. Al jaren is dit dé spot om te borrelen in de zomer en aan te meren met je bootje (al is dat inmiddels redelijk aan banden gelegd). Maar eigenlijk is deze plek het hele jaar door leuk, met z’n verschillende barretjes en supercharmante houtje-touwtje inrichting. Een goede avond is hier gegarandeerd!
