𝗔 𝗯𝗿𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗰𝗮𝗳𝗲́ 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝗔𝗺𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗱𝗮𝗺 𝗖𝗶𝘁𝘆? @eetcafe_de_reiger is the spot to remember. Cozy, casual, and a seasonal menu. This one was on my list to share for a year and finally it's (almost) asparagus season again! 🤤 Another plus? Prices are very reasonable here! 📍 Eetcafé de Reiger Jordaan, Amsterdam City Center Save this spot for when you're craving warm Dutch traditional dishes in the heart of Amsterdam. A grandma's cookbook. Three Michelin stars. And a beautiful 70s villa in a quiet neighborhood in Bangkok, where you are welcomed as if you were at the chefs' home. The Sühring brothers don't cook based on trends; they cook based on memories. Of their grandmother's farm, of the flavors of their youth in Germany, and of techniques passed down through generations. @relaischateaux invited me to experience Sühring during a solo lunch, and this is truly my ultimate definition of culinary self-care. This was a surprising afternoon in Bangkok, where I ate the best German food I have ever tasted. And that in a city where I normally avoid European restaurants. Well, for @restaurant_suhring, you really want to make that exception. Signature dishes that I still think back to regularly? 🍴 Labskaus with caviar 🍴 Enleta waffle with Pfalz vinegar 🍴 Game pâté 🍴 Dry-aged Duck TIP: When you go to Sühring, reserve seats at the kitchen bar so you have a view of the chefs at work! This is one of the best free outings in the spring! Did you know that you can gather (or pick, for the connoisseurs 😉) oysters yourself at various locations in the Netherlands? I’m in Zeeland for a bit this weekend, and if we can make it, we’ll go again. 📍In this video, I show you where you can fill your bucket. Comment *oester* for the comprehensive guide with all the details about all 8 locations + handy tips and rules. Important to know: – Max. 10 kilos per person (≈ 1 bucket) – For personal use only – Do not scoop or scrape the seabed – Go at low tide Handy things to bring: Bucket, screwdriver, boots, work gloves, tea towel, clean clothes, and garbage bags (for the oysters *and* dirty clothes). And of course: bring an oyster knife, lemon, and champagne too 🍋🥂 Because you’ll want to taste something right away, won’t you! The oyster season runs from September to about April / early May, so now that the water isn't so cold, this is the perfect outing. In the full guide, I share exactly where you can easily find them, without much effort. Comment oyster and I'll send it to you right away! Who do you want to go oyster gathering with soon? ✖️✖️✖️ 🖊️ @anne_de_buck
𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲'𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗽𝗼𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 These are those few magical weeks each year when the city suddenly feels different. Everything is in bloom and all you want to do is be outside. I'll definitely be doing a few more rounds before it's over. ✖️✖️✖️ 🖊️ @anne_de_buck _______________________________________________ 🌸 Discover the best places to spot cherry blossom in Amsterdam and enjoy the sakura in full bloom. 🌸

Fun winter festivals in Edmonton

Did you know that Edmonton is also known as "the festival city"? And luckily, they don't just organize them in the summer, because a little cold doesn't deter them here. So, if possible, plan your winter sports holiday to Edmonton and Jasper around one of these winter festivals:

  • All is Bright: This annual festival takes over 124th Street with outdoor concerts, fire pits, street performers, and more in one of Edmonton's coolest neighborhoods.
  • Luminary: During this winter festival, the University of Alberta Botanic Gardens are beautifully lit with hundreds of lanterns.
  • Zoominescence: Light festivals never get old during the dark months, if you ask me! This festival with illuminated animals takes place, fittingly, at the Edmonton Valley Zoo.
  • Deep Freeze: This Byzantine festival celebrates Alberta's melting pot of cultures with a variety of authentic and cultural winter games in honor of the Orthodox New Year.
  • Flying Canoe Volant: a French-Canadian festival centered around a canoe race down a ski slope with music, dancing, and folklore.
  • Skirtsafire: Edmonton's only festival that focuses on female artists and diversity.
  • Silver Skate: During Silver Skate, music, skating, and many other winter sports come together in one of the most popular winter festivals of the year.
  • Ice on Whyte: admire the most beautiful ice sculptures you've ever seen.

Snowshoeing

Have you ever been snowshoeing? Snowshoeing is perhaps the most popular winter sports activity after skiing and snowboarding. Go with a guide and take a beautiful hike off the beaten path. Winter sports in Jasper at Marmot Basin

About a four-hour drive from Edmonton, you'll find Jasper National Park and the snow-sure ski resort Marmot BasinThe town of Jasper is a great base for your ski adventure in Canada. You can reach the ski area in just 25 minutes! From the parking lot, you can ski right onto the slopes. Here you'll experience the dry powder snow for which the Canadian Rockies are so famous. Something I definitely want to experience again as a ski enthusiast. I can just picture returning to your cozy cabin or lodge hotel after a day on the slopes with a crackling fire and winter comfort food. Locals call it Ski Marmot Basin. Known as a quiet ski area with expansive slopes where it's almost never too crowded. It's wonderful to ski back up after your descent without waiting in line for another round of skiing. Need a break from skiing? There are several restaurants at Marmot Basin: Caribou Chalet (at the foot of the mountain) and halfway up the mountain you will find the huts Paradise Chalet and Eagle Chalet. These two adjacent chalets are home to Paradise Cafeteria, Charlie's Bar, and Eagle's Grill & Lounge. where you can eat and drink something. Because let's face it, every now and then you have to take a good look around and enjoy the beautiful nature and a nice drink.

 | TIP: You can also enjoy beautiful snowshoe hikes around Jasper if you'd like to do something different than skiing for a day. And there's plenty more to do in Jasper National Park during the winter, from the Maligne Canyon Icewalk to dog sledding and spotting the Northern Lights. And do you, like me, love good food? You can even take a food tour in Jasper! View all activities here >>

Stay at the Fairmont Jasper Park lodge

It's no secret that I'm a huge hotel lover. For me, a trip idea really starts with the hotel we choose as our base. I've looked at luxury hotels in Jasper so often that I already have my bucket list selection ready for you. From hotels with the most beautiful views to cozy cabins in a luxury hotel, Jasper has no shortage of great places to stay. The Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge is beautifully situated on an elevated spot overlooking the lake. It has a heated outdoor pool and is decorated in authentic (and super cozy) lodge style. There are various types of hotel rooms, but the cabins and suites (with private fireplaces) seem to me the most suitable for winter sports. Another hotel I would book for our winter sports trip to Jasper is Pyramid Lake Resort. This lodge is located right on the lake, about six kilometers from the town. In winter, you can go snowshoeing or take a horse-drawn sleigh ride right from your hotel!

Book a complete winter trip

Are you curious about the fully catered trips offered for this bucket list destination? On the website edmonton-jasper.nl You'll find various trips where everything has been taken care of. Good to know: all these trips include the KLM flight, accommodations, local transportation (shuttle service or rental car), a ski pass for Marmot Basin, and the option to bring your own skis or snowboard on the flight for free!

Another great thing about all these trips is that they always combine vibrant Edmonton with the start or end of the Jasper winter sports season. This site also provides an overview of various tour operators who can help you plan a customized winter trip.

When my son is a bit older, this winter sports trip is one of the things I want to do soon! It's not peak season in Canada during our spring break, and I've heard the skiing is really good and uncrowded. But who knows, maybe we'll do some "pre-planning," as we say, just the two of us first ;-). I'm putting this destination at the top of our ski bucket list. That's for sure!

With love,

Anne
