Wanneer je op reis bent zie je zoveel schattige boetiekjes en toffe winkels met items die je niet zo 1, 2, 3 ook in Nederland vindt. Dus shoppen op reis, yes please (extra koffer is een optie..)! Maar dan willen we dus niet alle standaard winkels binnen gaan die je thuis ook tegen komt. Los Angeles barst van de leuke (concept) stores, dus dat zit hier helemaal ok. General Store: Hier met lege handen naar huis gaan? Onmogelijk! Ze hebben zoveel leuks dat het misschien zelfs beter is om niet naar binnen te gaan. Kleding, sieraden, en te veel leuke items om in je huis te zetten.

Urbanic Paper Boutique: Stationary lovers opgelet. Bij deze boetiek bij Venice Beach wil je shoppen. Ze hebben de mooiste boekjes, kaartjes, schriftjes maar ook interieur items zoals kaarten of leuke hoesjes voor je mobiel.

Broome Street General Store: In de buurt Silver Lake vind je deze leuke winkel met veel luxe items en gifts. Hier kom je voor mooie kleding en interieur hebbedingen. Coffee en eten hebben ze ook btw!

Poketo: Gift shopping in LA doe je bij Poketo. Ze hebben hier veel art en design, dus allemaal erg uniek, maar ook te leuk om te hebben. En yes, ze hebben ook een webshop ;-)

LACMA store: Eerst naar het museum, en dan door naar de winkel. Museum winkels zijn altijd mijn favoriet. Ze hebben de mooiste design items en geweldige boeken waar je uren door kunt bladeren. Het museum zelf is ook niet verkeerd!

Skylight Books: Dagje relaxen maar je hebt geen boek om in te lezen? Ga dan langs bij Skylight Books, want hier hebben ze de beste! En eerlijk, boeken winkels zijn altijd leuk. Love it!

Jet Rag: Ook deze vintage store is een bezoekje waard. Net zoals bij de meeste vintage winkels: zoek goed, maar dan heb je ook wat!

Ooga Booga: Fan van mooie printjes voor aan de muur? Dan moet je naar Ooga Booga! Ze hebben ook de mooiste notitie boekjes en t-shirts. Eigenlijk gewoon van alles wat. We love it!

Wild Style: Niet alleen kun je hier online de tofste kleding kopen, nee ook gewoon in hun winkel op Melrose Ave. Leuke straat, leuke winkel! Zeker even langs gaan wanneer je in de buurt bent.

Zo van de airport door naar dit zaakje om soup dumplings en zó veel meer te proeven! Dat is wat ik noem een soft landing 😉 <3
In Taipei ga je naar een Soy Milk Shop voor ontbijt. Warme soy milk die je eet in een bowl en stoommandjes met de lekkerste dumplings en baozi’s. Je kunt mij echt wakker maken voor dit soort ontbijtjes. Deze lokale ontbijttentjes komen in alle soorten en maten, van Michelin-recommended adressen tot hole-in-the-wall-kraampjes.
De meeste soy milk shops zijn al vroeg (en soms zelfs 24 uur per dag) open en dit zijn de gerechten die je wilt proeven:
🥄 Warm soy milk
🥢 Soup dumplings (je kunt vaak kiezen tussen pork en veggies)
🥢 Pork baozi
🥢 Youtiao (油條 - een soort fried donut stick)
🥢 Youtiao (油條) w/ pork floss & rice

🥢 Scallion pancake
TIP: delen is een goed idee om zoveel mogelijk te proeven, want de porties zijn (vaak) groot.

Nét terug uit Catalonië en ik dacht: ik ga direct wat tips delen.
Tijdens onze roadtrip bleven we twee nachtjes in de Ebrodelta. Een ontzettend leuke stop voor families én foodies, waar van alles te doen is.
· Een boottochtje naar het Musclarium is een must! Hier eet je oesters en mosselen zo van de farm, midden op zee.
· Bewonder de flamingo’s en zwarte ibissen die hier het hele jaar door te vinden zijn.
· In de Ebrodelta wordt het hele jaar door rijst verbouwd. Voor paella, maar Kensho maakt er ook sake en miso van! Je kunt hen bezoeken tijdens een tasting.
· Fietsen langs de rijstvelden, kanoën op de Ebro-rivier en naar verschillende stranden. Het was nu nog net te koud, maar er is van alles te doen.
· De stadjes zijn heel low key en niet zo spannend, maar je kunt er wel fantastisch lekker lokaal eten. Van het door Michelin bekroonde Les Moles* tot lokale eethuisjes als Vermuteria Bonmarisc en Lo Tinglado. We aten heel veel vis, maar ook fritters van anemoon (een first!).
Nu back to work en ga ik een uitgebreide travel guide maken van deze roadtrip door Catalonië, maar deze tips wil je alvast bewaren voor een volgend avontuur.
