I LOVE shopping in New York. And especially in the creative neighborhoods of Brooklyn. If you like East London, Amsterdam East , or Amsterdam North , then Greenpoint is definitely highly recommended. This neighborhood borders Williamsburg and is known for its many independent shops, cafes, and creative entrepreneurs.
The great thing about shopping in New York is that there is always something new to discover. In Greenpoint, you’ll find many small boutiques with clothing and other cool items. My discovery was Brooklyn Charm. An amazing shop with lots of charms that you can have attached to various necklaces. A really fun concept!
When you enter, grab a tray and collect all your favorite charms and chains. Write the prices down on a piece of paper. They have charms of all shapes, sizes, and materials, from metal to natural materials. Finished shopping? Then the staff at Brooklyn Charm will immediately turn them into a necklace. That way, you design a unique piece of jewelry all by yourself.
While shopping in New York , I bought a copper-colored necklace with an envelope-shaped charm. I still regularly receive compliments on it when I wear it! In hindsight, I wish I had had much more made, but that is a good reason to return to New York soon.
Update 2026: Brooklyn Charm moved out of Williamsburg and now has a store in Greenpoint. Additionally, there is a location in the Lower East Side in Manhattan.
