Where to eat, drink, sleep and shop in the West Village

We’re so looking forward to our stay at one of the suites of MySuites tonight! I’ve been walking down Christopher Street lots of times the last couple of months thinking how awesome it would be to live here in this area. And now, only if it’s just for 2 nights, we can call the West Village our home!

Day 1: Check-in at MySuites

After checking into our super modern and charming suite, we buy a nice bottle of wine across the street at Waverly Place. We make a toast to a great last 2 days in “our” amazing apartment in the best city in the world. Read the MySuites blog here.

Pre-dinner drinks

Dinner can wait. First we drink a beer at the cozy locals’ bar Wilfie & Nell which is located just around the corner.

Dinner

After this we’re going for dinner at Jeffrey’s Grocery. Simple, but good food.

Other ideas for dinner:
Gottino: They have a few tables, but the large bar is where you want to sit. Very intimate atmosphere. Lots of shareable small dishes.
Red Farm: Amazian style dishes (self made up expression meaning a-ma-zing asian style food). Cool interior. Long waiting time.

Get into the Groove

Is it Thursday evening? Up for some old-fashion all-night dancing on the tables? Oh what. Like as if you never did that in your teens. The Jane is where it’s at. If you’re into 80’s, 90’s and top 40 music you’re gonna love this place. (Read Anne’s blog on the Jane here).

Day 2: A Full Day schedule of hotspotting

Breakfast and coffee

After waking up you’re heading for Whynot Coffee. It’s just a couple of minutes walking. One of the finest and modern coffee shops in NYC.

Is it the weekend? Go for brunch at Joseph Leonard (check out the blog on Joseph Leonard).

Stop. Shopping time.

Just a short walk away, like around the corner there’s PERSONNEL of New York. Don’t miss it. Great shop.

After this head over to the stores on Bleecker Street: Aesop, Marc Jacobs, Reiss. Love the shops, but the atmosphere of the area is just unbeatable.

Got some spare time? Walk around, see the beautiful small streets and cute townhouses with a million dollar style (literally). Go to Perry Street. It’s where Carrie (Sex and the City) used to live.

Lunch break

Need a break? Make a stop on 4th street at Cafe Minerva. They also have wifi.

Tea salons are hot in New York. Go to Press Tea for a nice cup of freshly pressed tea or a tea latte. And the pastries are pretty awesome as well… There’s also wifi.
Need a sweet cooling refresco? Try the Salty Pimp at Big Gay Ice Cream.

Dinner New York Style

For dinner I’ve got a couple of nice suggestions for you:
We’re huge fans of Aria Winebar. Expect to wait in line but the price-quality of this place is superb.

Bell, Book and Candle has a very funny “secret room”. Not really for the 2 of you, but if you’re with 4 or 5, try it out! Ask for their ‘Naked Lady room’….

After-dinner drinks

Dark and intimate bar The Other Room is also located in the West Village. And in the end we all look fabulous in dimmed light.
Other funky bar is the maritime-style gay-friendly Rusty Knot.

In the mood for great cocktails? After all, you’re in New York now. Go to:
Employees Only, a secret cocktail bar at Hudson Street. Well, not really “secret” as you will notice there’s a bar here because of all the people standing outside.
Or speakeasy cocktailbar Little Branch. This is what you would call a hidden bar. Have to look for a door in the middle of a street…

The cool coffee bar (Whynot Coffee) you went to this morning like I advised you to (and if you were smart you did take my advice) also has a small jazz club downstairs. It just recently opened so always a good idea to check it out. Otherwise drink wine upstairs.

After our last glass of wine it’s also time for us to head back. So we make our way for the last time to our super cool L.A. Suite. Our last night in The Village…
Too much stuff to do, too little time. What an amazing city this is…

Some practical information and tips

Tip 1: How to get there from JFK airport? Take a taxi and this will cost you an hour at least and 100 bucks. Take the A-Train (blue line) from JFK to West 4th Street and this will take 30 minutes and will cost $ 7,50. From there it’s about 5-10 minutes walking to your L.A. Suite.
The apartment on 82 Christopher Street is literally at 30 seconds walking distance from the 1-line subway station.

Tip 2: Download the NYC Subway app. It doesn’t cost any data and it will make you life a lot easier. Trust me.

Tip 3: Download the HopStop app. It will tell you exactly which train/bus/subway to take to get from A to B.

Tip 4: If you can’t use Google Maps because of our data limit, download the offline map of New York through the CityMaps2Go app.
