Coffee journey around the world: 4 x coffee (culture) and recipes for coffee lovers

I'll get straight to the point... there are few things during our world trip that I really missed about home, except my Nespresso Vertuo machineEvery time I sat down with my cup of instant coffee in my hotel room, I realized how nice it is to have your own coffee ritual at home. And how easy it is to make a delicious cup of coffee with the push of a button on your way to the bathroom.

One of the things I was really looking forward to during our world trip was immersing myself in the local coffee culture. From the world's largest coffee-producing countries to countries with the biggest coffee lovers. Two worlds that revolve around coffee, yet are completely different in experience; I realized this while quietly reflecting on all the countries we'd visited on my polar bed.

Come with me to get breakfast in Taipei 🥢 Straight from the airport to this little spot to taste soup dumplings and so much more! That's what I call a soft landing 😉
Just back from Catalonia and I thought: I'll share some tips right away. During our road trip, we stayed two nights in the Ebro Delta. An incredibly fun stop for families and foodies alike, where there is plenty to do. · A boat trip to the Musclarium is a must! Here you eat oysters and mussels straight from the farm, in the middle of the sea. · Admire the flamingos and black ibises that can be found here all year round. · Rice is grown in the Ebro Delta all year round. For paella, but Kensho also makes sake and miso from it! You can visit them during a tasting. · Cycling along the rice fields, canoeing on the Ebro River, and visiting various beaches. It was still a bit too cold now, but there is plenty to do. · The towns are very low-key and not that exciting, but you can find fantastic local food there. From the Michelin-awarded Les Moles* to local eateries like Vermuteria Bonmarisc and Lo Tinglado. We ate a lot of fish, but also anemone fritters (a first!). Now back to work, and I’m going to create an extensive travel guide of this road trip through Catalonia, but you’ll want to save these tips for a future adventure. ✖️✖️✖️ 🖊️ @anne_de_buck { In this post, I share tips for the Ebro Delta in Spain (Delta de l'Ebre). From Panama, Costa Rica and Colombia to Vietnam

Our world trip started in Panama, Costa Rica, and Colombia. Countries where the best coffee in the world comes from. And we certainly enjoyed good coffee there. At places where time seemed to have stood still. Places where everything revolves around the beans. And where coffee is best enjoyed black. I have my Nomad Travel Mug I spent many mornings enjoying the sunrise and the dawn of a new day in the most beautiful places. I also found it magical to drive through the mountains lined with coffee plantations, picking the red beans myself and examining them up close. Yet, there was something I felt was missing during our weeks in Central and South America. I couldn't quite put my finger on it... The penny finally clicked when we stayed with a wonderful host in Salento. He told me that coffee in Colombia had been primarily an export product for years.

For me, coffee is perhaps the most social product in my daily routine. I expected to see that culture much more in the major coffee-producing countries. Perhaps that's why our visit to Vietnam felt like a warm bath. Everywhere you look in the city, you see: Cà Phê, Cà Phê, Cà Phê. And if you see that on the facade, it means only one thing: COFFEE! For me, Vietnam is the country during our world trip where there's a true coffee culture, deeply rooted in the daily lives of the locals. Here, I found what I'd been searching for during those first few months: cafes where drinking coffee is a social occasion, not just for "rich" tourists and expats. A country where coffee culture has also produced the most surprising coffee recipes over the past decades. Combinations I'd never tasted before, and which pleasantly surprised me. And it's precisely trying these kinds of new things while traveling that is why I love traveling so much!

So my conclusion: coffee culture has many flavors. I certainly didn't want to deprive you of the wonderful flavors I tasted in Vietnam, so I've collected the recipes for the special coffees I drank there. That's why I've collaborated with the experts at Nespresso to select capsules (for both the vertuo as the Original) with these recipes that best complement the other ingredients and ensure the right strength. I'm curious to see which coffee recipe will become your favorite!
