What to do in Utrecht: 5 activities perfect for the weekend

In the mood for a day out within the Netherlands? Head to Utrecht ! In this city, you can not only enjoy great shopping or fine dining, but there are also many other fun things to do in Utrecht on the weekend. From visiting museums to relaxing in nature. In this bucket list, we have listed all the fun things to do in Utrecht for you.

what to do in utrecht on the weekend?

Discover the best streets: Utrecht boasts countless shops that are definitely worth a visit. Skip the big chains and seek out small boutiques with unique offerings. Visit Schoutenstraat, Zadelstraat, Lijnmarkt, Kintgenshaven, Vismarkt, and Oudkerkhof. And along the Oudegracht canal, you'll find a row of antique dealers where you can snag the most beautiful finds.

Go soak up some culture: Utrecht has a rich history and a vibrant culture. In addition to architectural gems such as the famous Dom Tower and the canals as a source of cultural pride, the city offers a wide range of interesting museums. My personal favorite is the Centraal Museum, definitely worth a visit if you are in Utrecht. Also fun: five times a year, during Cultural Sunday, the Utrecht city center is transformed into a platform for theater, music, art, literature, and workshops.

Enjoy a shared dinner: After a day exploring Utrecht, end your day with a shared dinner with friends or your partner. A great spot for this is Burgemeester Reigerstraat. Here you can snack on the best pintos and appetizer platters, served by super friendly staff. Bastacosi on Biltstraat is the best for the tastiest wood-fired pizzas, and at Restaurant De Markt on Drieharingenstraat and Piatto on Vredenburg, you can share bites Italian-style.

Get out into nature: The hustle and bustle of the city is wonderful, but catching your breath in the tranquility of nature is essential for me. A direct bus from Utrecht Central Station takes you to the Amelisweerd estate in just fifteen minutes. At Amelisweerd, you can enjoy lovely walks in the woods and cuddle cows. The best place for lunch is De Veldkeuken, where you'll find 100% organic ingredients from the estate's vegetable gardens.

Go boating: Explore Utrecht from the water: the Oudegracht, Nieuwegracht, and Kromme Rijn canals are the most beautiful in the city. But you can also choose to sail from the city to the outskirts, with plenty of greenery, beautiful wooded quays, and the opportunity to moor occasionally for a picnic on the grass. So: rent that sloop! With a glass of bubbly in hand and some music in your ears, this is the ultimate sunny Sunday activity.
