‘Pas’ means something like ‘exactly right’ in Bahasa. And that is precisely what you can expect at Warung Pas Amsterdam: simple Indonesian dishes that are exactly right. It’s not too chic and not too casual, but just as you would like it. Yet another reason to take the ferry to Noord.
The atmosphere and interior of Warung Pas Amsterdam
Warung Pas founder Petra Moerbeek was born in Java and spent most of her life there. Once in the Netherlands, she despised how some restaurants serve and combine classic Indonesian dishes; she believes a good rendang or satay doesn’t need much else. And so, it was time to take matters into her own hands. The result? Warung Pas Amsterdam is a place where you can taste real Indonesia.
Cooking comes naturally to Petra, but it started as a hobby. She had a job in architecture, but during the pandemic, she started cooking more and more for family and friends, as she missed the social interaction. No large dinners, but delivering Indonesian meals. It became so popular that it led to the Indo Ricebowl catering service and various pop-up food events. During one of those pop-ups, Petra contacted the organisers of Sexyland in Noord, and they were looking for someone to take over from Order Sichuan. And so it happened: Warung Pas is now located on the first floor of Sexyland for at least six months.
The interior of Warung Pas is simple, with Indonesian influences. The place is set up like a real Warung—a type of food stall you often see on the side of the road in Indonesia—and includes colourful details from Petra’s homeland. Every time she visits Indonesia, she brings back souvenirs for decoration.
Dishes and menu at Warung Pas
As mentioned, the dishes and menu at Warung Pas are simple but good. The menu changes every few weeks based on mood and product availability. You can always choose from five starters and three main courses, all of which can also be ordered as vegetarian meals (with tempeh or tofu).
The dishes come from all corners of Indonesia, as the founder lived in Yogyakarta before moving to the Netherlands at age eighteen—a place where all Indonesian styles come together.
Warung Pas is perfect for a casual date night and a fun evening with friends
Warung Pas is the ideal place for a relaxed evening with friends, perhaps followed by drinks and dancing elsewhere in Noord (there are plenty of places for that). But it’s also a great spot for a casual date night without too much fuss or pretension.
