12 X walks outside the city with a nice drink spot or take-away

While I don't see myself moving out of the city anytime soon, I do spend a lot of time outside. A list of great hiking areas with great spots for drinks and restaurants is therefore a must for Your Little Black Book. I love taking a nice walk with my family on Sundays, and I can tell you that all the spots for drinks in nature have been thoroughly tested. This list focuses mainly on great restaurants and cafes in wooded nature reserves, where you can relax after your walk for a bite to eat or a drink!

12 X Fun places to go for a walk and have a drink in the Amsterdam area

Restaurant de Veldkeuken

Surroundings: Amelisweerd Estate. After a weekend in Utrecht, you can enjoy a lovely walk at the Rhijnauwen and Amelisweerd estates. There is often ample parking, and you can grab something tasty to go at Restaurant de Veldkeuken. Koningslaan 11 A, Bunnik – veldkeuken.nl

Meerzicht farm

Area: Amsterdamse Bos. A classic in the Amsterdam area, because a walk through the Amsterdamse Bos, ending with coffee and a treat at Boerderij Meerzicht, is perfect on a Sunday. Koenenkade 56, Amsterdamboerderijmeerzicht.nl

Venneperlodge

Area: Lisse / Nieuwe-Vennep. First, take a walk in the Amsterdam Water Supply Dunes and on the way back, grab something tasty to go at the Venneperlodge. Chances are you'll linger for a while if the terraces are open. After all, there is also a fun playground for the kids! Getsewoudweg 1, Nieuw-Vennep – venneperlodge.nl

Outside in the Pit

Area: Lage Vuursche. Lage Vuursche is by far one of my favorite areas for walking. We often combine it with a visit to the farm shop Hoeve Ravenstein, making it a lovely day out of the city. Buiten in de Kuil is a really nice hotspot in the woods, where it is always busy with cyclists and walkers. I really can't wait to sit on the terrace again, but luckily they also do takeaway! Zevenlindenweg 9, Lage Vuursche – buitenindekuil.nl

Tea house 't Hoge Erf

Location: Lage Vuursche. They used to have a food trailer, but now the restaurant is open for takeaway. Enjoy food and drinks at the picnic tables at the edge of the forest. You'll find this spot near the climbing forest, great for slightly older kids! Hoge Vuurseweg 11, Lage Vuursche – theehuislagevuursche.nl

The gardener

Location: Hilversum Heath. You will find this lovely hotspot on the De Hoorneboeg estate, on the edge of the Hilversum Heath. Vegetables take center stage on the menu, sourced as much as possible from the estate's own kitchen garden. You can look out over this from the terrace while enjoying a glass of wine or vegetable cocktail after a nice walk. Hoorneboeg 4, Hilversum – bijdetuinman.nl

House of Bird

Location: Diemerbos. Opened last year and quite an asset to the Amsterdam area. At the Diemerbos, House of Bird is a tasting room with a restaurant and a wonderfully pleasant terrace. Let me certainly not forget to mention the fenced-in sandbox and the picnic tables next to it for the parents among us. First, a walk in the Diemerbos, then well-deserved bitterballen with a nice drink. Diemerbospad 1a, Diemen – houseofbird.nl

Ear fences

Area: Ooijpolder. During our last weekend getaway to Nijmegen in December, we went for a wonderful walk in the Ooijpolder on Sunday. Park near restaurant Oortjeshekken, grab a coffee for the road, and walk around Bizonbaai. Erlecomsedam 4, Ooij – oortjeshekken.nl

The General

Area: Baarn. It is fun with the kids to first walk the Gnome Trail and then enjoy something tasty to eat and drink at De Generaal in the old Baarn station. The Gnome Trail starts from De Generaal, where you can also pick up a pointed hat and the tasks for the road from Staatsbosbeheer ( see more info here ). Of course, you can also just head into the woods for a nice walk! Afterwards, you can relax on the terrace of De Generaal. Lt. Gen. van Heutszlaan 5, Baarn – degeneraal.nl
