Eat, sleep, rave, repeat at the Volkshotel!

If you check in to the Volkshotel, there’s no reason to leave the hotel for at least 24 hours.  This industrial design hotel has it all… a cafe for lunch and coffee, work spaces, a restaurant, club and even a sauna on the rooftop. Staying at the Volkshotel in Amsterdam is a (very!) cool start of your city trip to Amsterdam!

The Volkshotel is located in a building that was once the head quarter of a large Dutch newspaper called the Volkskrant. They completely renovated the place with an industrial looking hip hotel as the result. It reminds me a bit of Hotel Daniel in Vienna which is located in a former office building (pretty cool too by the way).

The Volkshotel is a great addition to the hotel scene in Amsterdam, since the Volkshotel has a unique style and multifunctional purpose. Amsterdam could use a hotel with this style and vibe. It’s for sure not only something for tourists, locals love the Volkshotel too.

On the ground floor you find Werkplaats and the front desk. Werkplaats is a cafe which is perfect for coffee or afternoon drinks. There are also special events at Werkplaats like live music!

The rooms at the Volkshotel in Amsterdam are modern en come in all flavours and sizes. From family style rooms to one of a kind designed rooms. Can you imagine sleeping in a cargo bike or on a in a cabin in the woods?

The regular rooms are comfortable and light. Unique vintage details give the rooms a personal touch. We had a nice view over Amsterdam East from our bed!

One of the things that makes the Volkshotel very popular with locals too is the very cool rooftop on the 7th floor. Canvas op de 7e is the restaurant and rooftop bar! With delicious food to share Canvas is one of the best affordable eats of the moment in Amsterdam (if you ask me!). Read Yourlbb’s full story about restaurant Canvas op de 7e here. Make sure to check out the rooftop for the very cool view over Amsterdam East. Especially during sun down!

After 11 pm Canvas turns into Club Canvas! Do you get the eat, sleep, rave, repeat feeling now? The crowd at Club Canvas is a nice mix of Amsterdam locals (mostly hipsters) and hotel guests. Read more about Club Canvas here.

I can highly recommend taking your swimsuit when you stay at the Volkshotel! The 8th floor rooftop (for hotel guests only) has a ‘badplaats’. A what? A rooftop with hot tubs, beach chairs and a sauna. So cool! Imagine sitting in the hot tub with a view over Amsterdam East!

Breakfast is served buffet style at Canvas op de 7e. When the weather is nice you can sit on the rooftop terrace. Perfect start of the day to make plans to explore Amsterdam.
