How to afford to travel more!

GOT WANDERLUST? THIS IS HOW YOU CAN AFFORD TO TRAVEL MORE!

We all know that traveling is a luxury and that it costs money. Lots of money, unfortunately… Want to travel more, but don’t want to take on a second job? I shared the most important budget travel tips with you a while ago, and today I will share my personal tips on how to afford to travel more!

travel more >> take a workation

Yes yes, the workation is a real thing. And it is becoming even more popular! By working while you’re on a vacation, you can actually make money while you’re traveling! Just bring your laptop and find free wifi ;-) !

travel more >> Be smart

Don’t book the first flight or hotel you find on the internet! Be smart and look for discounts and special offers. For example, KLM has always good deals during their KLM Werelddeals. And of course you don’t want to book your trip in the high season, it will be more expensive then. Thailand is a ideal location to also visit in the low- and this rain season. The rain showers here don’t matter, they’re still better than in Holland. And they offer you the perfect situation to do some more work ;-) Tip: for hotel reservations I often use dreamcheaper.com. Here you can email your reservation to and if it can be canceled until a certain date, they go looking for sites that offer the same hotel but cheaper.

travel more >> sleep in a poshtel

Instead of sleeping in expensive hotel, you can also choose to spend the night in a poshtel. Cheap doesn’t have to be uncomfortable ;-) .

travel more >> go for the b-cities

When thinking of a city trip, you automatically think of the capital cities. But for anyone who wants to travel more, the second largest cities are also a possibility. In many cases they’re fun as much, a lot cheaper and less touristic. My favourite B-cities? Hamburg, Bordeaux and Valencia!

travel more >> swap hotels

When travelling, we relax the most when we’re surrounded by luxury. But for the ultimate holiday feeling you won’t have to spend each night in an expensive hotel. Swap hotels! Two nights in a cheaper hotel, one night in a more expensive hotel. This way you enjoy the better hotel even more and your holiday feeling will be stronger. Another plus: by exchanging hotels regularly, it seems your holiday lasts even longer!

travel more >> try to cut costs daily

Don’t get that delicious cappuccino at Starbucks just around the corner, but make your own coffee and milk at home. Less expensive and just as good. Just remember; the more you save, the more you can travel! The money you’ll save will of course go into your Wanderlust money-box!

travel more >> obligate yourself to save

Everybody wants to save, but in the end, we all forget to. Obligate yourself to save by automatically transferring an amount of money to your savings account. I also recommend you to get an old fashioned piggy bank and to put it on prominent spot in your house. Put your pocket money or just whatever you can miss in it and be hard on yourself; don’t open it until the end of the year, so can travel more the next year ;-) !

In my Wanderlust book I’ll even share more budget travel tips!
