The White Room Amsterdam: for a special culinary evening

18 October 2016

FORGET YOU’RE IN AMSTERDAM AT THE WHITE ROOM

Date night! Call me a sucker for going out to eat with my guy… but I think date night is the best. Especially if we’ve got a spot reserved in a restaurant like The White Room in Amsterdam. Okay, ladies and gents, believe me when I say that this is the sort of place you’re going to want to put on a nice dress for. The sort of placeI think we could use a few more of in Amsterdam. Funny detail: this restaurant has a really classical interior and looks exactly like the Moët & Chandon house I went to during a press trip.

Call me a sucker for classics, but how pretty and romantic is the interior of The White Room in Amsterdam? And I don’t mean pretty as in the Nicemakers’ latest creation, but beautiful as in… this will stay a classic. And the food?

Chef Jacob Jan Boerma – of three-Michelin-star restaurant De Leest – has put together a fantastic menu that’s whipped up daily by Chef de Cuisine Arturo Dalhuisen. A young chef! Enthusiastic and capable with a dress look. Another detail that I hadn’t expected, but how great is this? On the Tuesday evening that we were there it was completely full. Nice to see that a chic restaurant isn’t just for the weekend. Because there weren’t just tourists eating there for the view on the Dam. No, foodies, dates and groups of friends dominated the place. Okay… maybe there was a lost tourist or two who were staying in the newly-renovated Krasnapolsky hotel.

THE MENU AT The White Room

The menu switches up regularly and the night that we were there we dine from a menu that included:
DORADE – wasabi and cucumber
LANGOUSTINE – beet and currant
FOREL – chlorophyl and green mustard
VELUWSE HOENDER – lavas and gravy
CITROEN – aloe vera and buttermilk

With all of the hip restaurants in Amsterdam, I have to admit that after four years of Your Little Black Book, I’ve become a bit of a sucker for romantic and classical restaurants. Perfect for my weekly date night. And… truth be told, The White Room is now on my list of restaurants to surprise my guy with for a culinary night out.
But okay, okay… I’ve raved enough about why I like this place so much! See for yourself, the photos don’t lie!
