The House Bar & Kitchen Amsterdam: new hotspot in the Old-South of Amsterdam

25 October 2016

MEDITERRANEAN flavours at The House Bar & Kitchen in Amsterdam

Have you heard of The House Bar & Kitchen? In the building where first Sing Sing was situated (which used to be very hip, but suffered a silent death later) there’s now this new hotspot. The interior looks flawless. Lots of marble (love it!) and wooden details. In between meetings I recently cycled past this new restaurant in the south of Amsterdam in the Cornelis Krusemanstraat and I just had to stop for a coffee. Once inside I instantly fell in love with the large reading table of black marble. So pretty! And the rest of the place has a great atmosphere too, but most of all very cosy. The fish bone floor emanates such a warm feeling and fits right into the majestic old south of Amsterdam. While I nip my cappuccino, which has been prepared with one of the best machine ever by the way and – to be fair – tastes very good, I have a look at the menu.It also looks very good!

Finally something different in the old southern part of Amsterdam when it comes to restaurants. You can find lots of brasseries and good Italian restaurants, but a hotspot where they serve you the Mediterranean kitchen with a dash of French (for breakfast) and especially a little bit of Turkish influences, was still missing. Immediately I have discovered something that I’ll have to come back for with my lover: a fried egg with Sucuk (spicy Turkish sausage). We get this sausage at our usual Turkish store in the east of Amsterdam and it’s so good when you’re in need of a solid breakfast after a night of too many drinks and too much fun with friends. Furthermore you can have breakfast with lots of crêpes and you have several options of bread to choose from, for example (oh yes!) Turkish bread. The evening menu is diverse and you’ll notice the Italian, Meditteranean and Turkish influences here. The meat and fish are prepared on the Josper grill and I’m sure I won’t have to explain to you just what it is that makes this SO tasty. The grill of grills! Who’s craving for a more easy going dinner can have a seat for a pasta or perhaps a pizza from the brick kiln (very handy if you’re having kids with you for dinner). The dishes that cross my eye look good!

The first impression of The House Bar & Kitchen in Amsterdam? A good successor of Sing Sing and this new restaurant is a gain for the old-south of Amsterdam. I for one will definitely return very soon to have an elaborate tasting!
