Checking-in: The Capra Saas-Fee (Switzerland)

Saas-Fee is an incredibly popular ski area in Valais, Switzerland, that you should definitely visit if you love skiing. The Goat is a beautiful 5-star hotel where you'll want for nothing during your winter sports holiday in Saas-Fee. Opened in 2016, this hotel is the second 5-star hotel in the village. As you probably know, Saas-Fee is a car-free village, but the team at The Capra will be waiting for you at the parking lot or bus station to pick you up and take you to the hotel.

Indulge in luxury at The Capra, the best 5-star hotel in Saas-Fee

The Capra means goat, and this is subtly reflected in the details throughout the hotel. For example, a carved wooden goat hangs on the door as a "Do Not Disturb" sign. Upon check-in, you'll receive a warm welcome from general manager Raphaël, who will ensure you have everything you need during your stay. The hotel is only a five- to seven-minute walk from the ski lifts, but the hotel also offers a taxi service that can take you to the lifts. Very convenient: opposite the cable car, there's a small shed where you can store your ski gear so you don't have to walk to the lifts every day. After skiing, you can enjoy a drink by the fireplace in The Capra's cozy bar and living room. Experience the chalet-style atmosphere while enjoying 5-star luxury!

Rooms x The Capra Saas Fee

At The Capra, you can stay in one of the suites or in the recently opened chalet. The suites consist of a living room and a bedroom, and each has a wonderfully luxurious bathroom. After a day of skiing, you can relax in the enormous bathtub with Bogner bath products. Whether it's the fresh Alpine air or the luxurious box-spring bed, I had an incredibly good night's sleep at The Capra.

The room is tastefully decorated with lots of wood and natural materials. Modern but not too designer; I think they really managed to capture that cozy Alpine feel. A minibar with soft drinks is included in the room rate, and a carafe of water is placed on your bedside table every evening. I loved opening the doors to my balcony in the morning and looking out at the mountains. You can also make coffee in your room, so coffee lovers like me can enjoy a cup before breakfast and enjoy the beautiful view.

Wellness x The Capra Saas-Fee

What's better than relaxing in a sauna or Turkish bath after a day of skiing? During my stay, construction was underway on a new spa in the Capra's garden. It features an indoor and outdoor pool and a variety of saunas.

Once this large spa is complete, the current wellness area will be available as a private sauna for you and your partner to book. I loved completely unwinding in the Finnish sauna after a day on the slopes in Saas-Fee. Let all the impressions of the day flow through your mind, and then relax in the jacuzzi. Then, completely relaxed, you'll sit down for dinner!

La Locanda x The Capra Saas Fee

Foodies will also find what they're looking for at The Capra. It starts with breakfast, which is included in the room rate. Start your day with a glass of bubbly and some delicious local produce to pair with freshly baked bread. From cheeses to smoked ham and salmon, or enjoy a bowl of yogurt with homemade muesli and a variety of seeds. You can also order a selection of à la carte dishes, such as pancakes or poached eggs with salmon and avocado. Delicious!

La Locanda is also open for lunch and dinner. The Italian menu has a Swiss touch and was designed by two-Michelin-starred Chef Oliver Glowig, who also has a restaurant in Rome. For dinner, they serve various six-course tasting menus, allowing you to dine at your leisure and enjoy the finest ingredients from Valais. A la carte dining is also available for those who prefer fewer courses. I stayed at The Capra on a half-board basis and enjoyed a delicious three-course menu.

Also fun: you can take a wine course or cooking class at The Capra!

Retreats x The Capra

The team of The Goat He enthusiastically told me about their plans for the hotel. They'll be organizing various retreats outside of the ski season. These are fully catered weeks with a specific theme. Think yoga, nutrition, cycling, or just CrossFit.

I find that really interesting. Why do we mainly go on yoga retreats to warm countries when, in my opinion, there's nothing more healing for the mind than the view of the Swiss Alps and the fresh air? How wonderful is it to go for a hike in the mountains after a morning yoga session or relax in the new spa at The Capra?

I hope I can come back to Saas-Fee again to try out one of these retreats!
