13 X Thai restaurants in Amsterdam: must visit low- and hotspots

Are you also a fan of Thai food? Luckily, you don't have to travel to Asia for it, because there are plenty of delicious Thai restaurants in Amsterdam. And let's be honest: often the best Thai restaurants don't look hip and trendy, but they are incredibly delicious! My favorite dish is Pad Thai, a stir-fried rice noodle dish that's delicious with chicken. Also delicious is the Tom Yam Koeng: a spicy shrimp soup. Mmm, feeling hungry too? Luckily, we've selected the 13 best Thai restaurants in Amsterdam that you shouldn't miss!

These are the best Thai restaurants in Amsterdam

Thai Thai Figure

Thai Thai Poppetje is one of those places that instantly wins you over. The distinctive interior (and the name of the place) suggest it's an over-the-top restaurant, but a glance at the menu reveals that the food they serve is anything but lavish. In fact, the menu is actually quite minimalist and features exactly the Thai dishes you've always wanted to try, such as Khao Soi – a bowl of egg noodles and vegetables – and Khao Tod – fried curry rice balls.

Chok Dee Thai

Chok Dee Thai is located on Willemsstraat, a stone's throw from the increasingly lively Haarlemmerdijk. At Chok Dee, you can find almost all the Thai classics: from spicy fish cakes to delicious curries.

Songkran

Not far from Chok Dee, you'll find Songkran on Marnixstraat. You'll find many Thai restaurants in this neighborhood. Songkran is known for its authentic Thai dishes, all prepared by the owner. He's a jack of all trades, running the (always packed) restaurant all by himself.

Maenaam Thai

Locals have been going there for years, but the general public only recently discovered this Spuistraat spot. Lines have formed – even for regulars. The wait is worth it, because Maenaam Thai is known for its excellent Pad Thai.

Warie's Thai Food

Owner Suphawadi Anorat worked in the kitchens of various Thai restaurants in Amsterdam before taking over this one. She still cooks amazing dishes from her own open kitchen.

Naa Thai

On the edge of Sarphatipark, you'll find Naa Thai. Ideally, you can pick up your fresh food and enjoy it in the park, as Naa Thai is small and cozy.

Thai Deum

The restaurant looks simple, but the food here is absolutely delicious! The Koeng Yai Chu-chee is one of the tasty specialties made with large shrimp in red curry sauce. And you definitely have to order one of the spring rolls beforehand! Reserve a table or arrive early, because you're not the only one who loves this restaurant. Takeout is always an option, of course.

Boi Boi

Close to Artis in Amsterdam Oost Boi Boi is located here. This Thai restaurant offers a daily special at a reasonable price. Perfect if you don't feel like cooking and are craving Thai food! This time, it's not authentic Thai, but Thai food with a modern twist.

Thaicoon

The interior might not be the most inviting, but oh, how delicious it is! They also deliver, and you can, of course, pick up your order. The portions are quite large, so it's not uncommon to ask for a doggy bag afterward.

Bangkok

On Reguliersdwarsstraat, you'll find the Thai restaurant Bangkok. Bangkok is also a true institution in Amsterdam. Fresh Thai herbs are delivered from Thailand every week, and they use new, fresh ingredients daily. Try one of the spicy curries—yum!

Bird

Bird is located on Zeedijk and started as a walk-in/walk-out restaurant. They've since expanded and are almost always full. The kitchen uses a lot of fresh vegetables, so there are many vegetarian dishes on the menu. Tip: if you order takeout, you get a 10% discount! You can do this at the snack bar across from the restaurant. On Wednesdays, they have a special price for takeout: the red curry with chicken (one of their best-selling curries) is on sale.

Chutima's Thai Food House

Okay, let's be honest... you can only order takeout here. The interior isn't very inviting, but the food, oh my! The curries and soups are highly recommended, and you'll feel like you're truly in Thailand.

Ocha

In a small side street near Nieuwmarkt sits a tiny little place called Ocha. At Ocha, you can enjoy delicious Thai food without all the fuss. The two Thai ladies in the kitchen make the most delicious Thai dishes—a must-try!

Just back from Catalonia and I thought: I'll share some tips right away. During our road trip, we stayed two nights in the Ebro Delta. An incredibly fun stop for families and foodies alike, where there is plenty to do. · A boat trip to the Musclarium is a must! Here you eat oysters and mussels straight from the farm, in the middle of the sea. · Admire the flamingos and black ibises that can be found here all year round. · Rice is grown in the Ebro Delta all year round. For paella, but Kensho also makes sake and miso from it! You can visit them during a tasting. · Cycling along the rice fields, canoeing on the Ebro River, and visiting various beaches. It was still a bit too cold now, but there is plenty to do. · The towns are very low-key and not that exciting, but you can find fantastic local food there. From the Michelin-awarded Les Moles* to local eateries like Vermuteria Bonmarisc and Lo Tinglado. We ate a lot of fish, but also anemone fritters (a first!). Now back to work, and I’m going to create an extensive travel guide of this road trip through Catalonia, but you’ll want to save these tips for a future adventure. ✖️✖️✖️ 🖊️ @anne_de_buck { In this post, I share tips for the Ebro Delta in Spain (Delta de l'Ebre).
