Hello summer in Amsterdam! And when the weather is nice, that means one thing: enjoying a drink on a terrace. Whether you're in the mood for a relaxed lunch, a leisurely dinner, or a cozy evening of drinks with friends, Amsterdam East is the place to be. This neighborhood is bursting with cozy, large, inviting, and sunny terraces, but which one will you choose? Don't worry, we've listed the best terraces in Amsterdam East for you!
Badhuis on Javaplein is by far one of the nicest and largest new patios in Amsterdam East. From morning to evening, you can watch people cycle by while enjoying the Amsterdam summer sun. Another great thing about Badhuis is that you can make a reservation if you want to guarantee a spot. The drinks menu is spot on, and the dinner menu is also excellent (the burger is always a favorite!). In short: a great addition to the neighborhood and a place where everyone feels at home.

Turbo, the sister of Café De Tros, is a modern hangout in Amsterdam East where you can easily spend the whole day. Enjoy coffee or brunch on the terrace, with dishes like Japanese egg buns, miso mushrooms, or Korean fried fish. Later in the day, you can easily transition to snacks, cocktails, and dinner.

De Kleine Bes is a relaxed neighborhood café where you can relax with the whole family on the terrace. The enclosed patio allows children to run around freely while you enjoy a coffee, lunch, or early drink. The atmosphere is casual and warm, exactly what you're looking for for a pleasant afternoon in the neighborhood.

Say Beukenplein, and you think of Café Maxwell. This cozy eatery has been a fixture in Amsterdam East for years and is known for its relaxed atmosphere and affordable menu. After its recent renovation, the place feels fresher than ever, but thankfully, its neighborhood appeal has remained. On sunny days, you can relax on the terrace with a craft beer on tap or a tasty dish of the day.

The cozy Buurtcafé De Tros not only has a beautiful interior, but it also serves incredibly delicious food. Every day, they keep spots open for walk-ins, both inside and outside on the terrace. I love coming here for drinks with my husband and child, but it's also the perfect spot for an evening with friends or a date. You have to try the famous smash burger, and the ever-changing menu is always exciting.

For a delicious pizza with a thin crust and a crispy crust, Pazzi is the place to be. Enjoy authentic pizzas straight from the wood-fired oven on the sunny terrace. Order a limoncello spritz and finish with a cannoli filled with chocolate or ricotta, and for a moment, you'll feel like you're in an Italian square, but right here in Amsterdam.

On Beukenplein, Massalia boasts a must-see terrace. Here, you'll feel like you're in Marseille, with a menu packed with dishes with a Greek-French twist. The drinks menu is excellent, and the terrace is so spacious that you're sure to find a spot. Read about Massalia here >>

I've seen Wibautstraat in Amsterdam East change so much over the past 15 years I've lived here. It's becoming increasingly charming, and great new restaurants like Bottleshop definitely contribute to that! In good weather, you can enjoy a glass of natural wine or a sparkling wine on the terrace. They have such a lovely and diverse wine list, and the team is also incredibly knowledgeable.
Wibautstraat 130, Amsterdam – bottleshopams.nl
Amsterdam East has a new rooftop bar. Fitz on the Roof opens at the Pillows Hotel when the weather is nice. It's the same cocktail bar as Fitz, but on the roof of the beautiful building. This is the place to enjoy the sunset and sample some excellent cocktails. While Fitz on the Roof doesn't offer extensive dining options, it does have a tasty drinks menu. In my opinion, this new rooftop bar is a real asset to East, as such a chic venue was essentially the only thing missing from the vast array of restaurants and cafes. Here, you'll feel like you're in a different city, with the international vibe you normally only experience in luxury hotels.

In the always lively and bustling Javastraat, you can visit Le French Café all day long. A modern French bistro with a menu packed with the best of France, it'll make you feel like you're in Paris. It even has a very cozy, heated terrace!

In good weather, Troef's terrace is the gateway to a delightful evening of fine dining. You can start with an aperitif and some small snacks to share. At Troef's small bistro tables, you can leave the hustle and bustle of the day behind, enjoying the sun and a sidelong glance at the Amstel River. It's such a lovely spot!

Looking for a beautiful and peaceful terrace overlooking Oosterpark? At the luxurious Pillows Maurits at the Park, you'll find not only Fitz on the Roof, but also the stunning terrace of Spring Café Brasserie. This all-day restaurant with an Italian menu is not only stylish but also tucked away in the greenery. Enjoy a delightful lunch or dinner al fresco while listening to the birdsong in the park. As you'd expect from a luxury hotel, this all-day restaurant is also child-friendly. They even have a separate children's menu!
Mauritskade 61, Amsterdam – springcafebrasserie.com
Restaurant Alba is a delightful spot on Wibautstraat, where you can enjoy a fine dining dinner on the terrace. Their dishes change with the seasons, so you'll always find something new to try. Let them recommend the delicious natural wines they pair with, sourced directly from their wineries. Sitting here on the terrace, you'll instantly forget the hustle and bustle of Wibautstraat! On Saturdays and Sundays, they're open from 4:00 PM and it's a great spot for drinks.

De Kas is definitely one of the most unique restaurants in Amsterdam East. Here, you'll enjoy dishes reminiscent of a giant greenhouse in the heart of Park Frankendael. The vegetables on your plate are harvested in the morning from their own gardens in North Holland. And you can taste it! In good weather, you can sit comfortably on the terrace under the shade cloths. A tip to keep in mind if you're looking for a luxurious, extensive lunch on a weekday!

At Javaplein square, you'll find restaurant Wilde Zwijnen, where cooking with Dutch ingredients takes center stage. It's a true neighborhood classic, having been one of the best fine dining restaurants in Oost since its opening. This is the place to go for a more elaborate dinner, which you can enjoy on the terrace when the weather is nice. I'm a big fan of their Saturday and Sunday lunches!
Javaplein 23, Amsterdam – wildeboarshop.nl
For those who love fine wines, Bar Bachrach is a must-visit. Here you'll find a wide selection of organic and biodynamic wines on the menu. But the real reason to dine here is the delicious dishes with Middle Eastern and Mediterranean flavors. The terrace is small, so reservations are recommended.
Javaplein 25, Amsterdam – barbachrach.nl
For the best pizza on the patio in Oost, I always go to LouLou. The patio on Weesperzijde has thankfully gotten a lot bigger since they took over the place next door. The pizzas are incredibly delicious, and you can choose from plain or gluten-free dough (made with a unique blend of pea flour, rice flour, and cornmeal). I can tell you: it's one of the few places where I eat every last pizza crust ;-). It's also a great place for a quick, early-morning bite with the kids. The pizza with bunny ears is always a hit.

Say Wibautstraat and you're saying BAUT Oost! This restaurant is a household name, and especially when it comes to the sunny terrace, you're always in luck. Enjoy a leisurely dinner or simply enjoy drinks. The advantage of the large terrace? There's almost always a spot available!

The Lobby in Oost is one of those terraces you only know if you live nearby and cycle past. It's easily accessible by car and offers a wonderfully peaceful setting. For me, The Lobby is a true Amsterdam classic. Consistent quality and a menu always packed with delicious seasonal dishes. And when the weather's nice, you can enjoy it on the terrace too!

Discover the hidden terrace of Proeflokaal 't Nieuwe Diep in the beautiful Flevopark in Amsterdam East. This idyllic spot, nestled in a former pumping station and nestled among the greenery, offers a unique experience and feels like a true hidden gem. The menu features a superb selection of craft beers and jenevers from their own distillery. Perfect for drinks with friends while enjoying the tranquil surroundings.

Fancy some sushi on a patio in Amsterdam East? Sushi Fanatics is the place to be! It's definitely my favorite place to order sushi. But when the weather's nice, the small patio is a true hidden gem. This is the place to go for excellent sushi for lunch or dinner. The unique sake selection completes your culinary experience. And did you know there's a hidden omakase in the back?

Surrounded by trees, you'll feel like you're away from Wibautstraat when you sit on the terrace at Bar Bouche. Open from noon on weekends, and from 4 pm on other days for drinks. If you ask me, Bar Bouche is a real crowd-pleaser. The atmosphere is welcoming, the terrace looks incredibly inviting, and the menu is packed with delicious dishes perfect for sharing. Add a glass of wine and you're all set!

For me, the perfect blend of wine bar and restaurant is the inviting Clos Amsterdam. From late afternoon on, you can enjoy the beautiful weather in Amsterdam East on the secluded terrace. The menu is full of dishes perfect for sharing, and the wines are cleverly categorized by flavor profile.
Beukenplein 50, Amsterdam – closamsterdam.nl
At Restaurant Nomads, you'll be transported to faraway places. The terrace offers a tranquil oasis by the water in Oostpoort. Enjoy a sumptuous dinner with colorful, global dishes. The menu changes every six months, each time focusing on a different country. From Middle Eastern lamb chops to South American ceviche, there's always something new to discover.
Orange-Free State Kade 55, Amsterdam – nomads-amsterdam.nl
L'Osteria is an Italian restaurant that (I think) is especially popular with families. Especially when the weather is nice, because with the playground right outside, it's a great place for kids aged toddlers and up to hang out. You eat quietly, they play. But let's be honest: even without kids, this part of Amsterdam East is definitely worth a visit. In good weather, it's a lovely swimming spot, and then you can hop from a picnic in the grass to the terrace for some pasta or pizza. Buon appetito!

Louie Louie in Oost has a lovely patio, and I regularly go there for drinks. Whether it's a pre-dinner drink or a late-night nightcap on the way home. Even when it's a bit chilly, you can sit comfortably under the heaters.

One of my favorite hidden gems in East Amsterdam. Even a little sunshine feels pleasant here, and the food is simple but good. It's also a great spot for drinks with the kids while relaxing in one of the beach chairs on the grass.
Ringdijk 58, Amsterdam – guldeneenhoorn.nl
Looking for the best rooftop terrace in Amsterdam East? Canvas is your go-to spot! Located atop the Volkshotel, Canvas offers breathtaking views of the city. Whether you're there for lunch, dinner, or just drinks with friends, Canvas's rooftop terrace is the perfect place to soak up the sun and enjoy the good vibes. The cocktails are good, the craft beer menu is packed, the beats are always on point, and the view is unforgettable. You might quickly forget about this gem of a terrace in Amsterdam East because it's been open for a while, but definitely go back this summer!
Wibautstraat 150, Amsterdam – canvas7.nl
At Brouwerij Poesiat & Kater in Amsterdam East, they have a lovely, spacious terrace with a relaxed atmosphere. Here you can enjoy craft beers brewed on-site and delicious dishes that perfectly complement them. Whether you're coming for a cozy lunch, a bite to eat, or just drinks with friends at the picnic tables, you're sure to find a great spot. I personally like it because it's a bit tucked away in the East district behind the Oostpoort shopping center. It feels like a hidden gem!
Polderweg 648, Amsterdam – poesiatenkater.nl
Summer or fall weather... it doesn't matter on the terrace of De Biertuin, under the parasols and heaters! A fixture in Oosterpark since its opening. The menu is packed with delicious snacks and craft beers, of course, but you can also find authentic pub grub here. From burgers to ribs, there's no fuss here.
Linneausstraat 1, Amsterdam – debiertuin.nl

Experience the delicious flavors of Italy at Javaplein. Just like at Spaghetteria's other locations in Amsterdam, you can enjoy their famous pasta and other Italian dishes on the terrace. Who will you be joining you at Spagh this summer?
Javaplein 7, Amsterdam – spaghettiria.com
How lovely is this terrace? On a small square next to Artis Zoo, with a view of the flamingos. Our regular spot for a drink after a visit to Artis when the weather is nice. The kids can play in the fountain while you enjoy a glass of wine. Is there a downside? The service is inconsistent, but you just have to accept that in a place like this ;-).
Plantage Kerklaan 36, Amsterdam – caferestaurantdeplantage.nl
This brewery has a large terrace where you can also moor your boat nearby. What's great about this terrace is that you can also enjoy a beer tasting with the famous Brouwerij 't IJ beers. Trust me, that IJ-witje tastes delicious in the sun!
Funenkade 7, Amsterdam – brouwerijhetij.nl
This all-day spot boasts a spacious patio on both sides of the building. This means you're almost always guaranteed sunshine and a great place to people-watch on the bustling Javastraat. A perfect patio for drinks with friends in Amsterdam East.

Bar Basquiat, Amsterdam
Not the biggest patio, but always cozy. And honestly, this pub is actually more comfortable outside than inside. So, keep it in mind! At this patio in Amsterdam East, the beers are always cold and they have one of the best snack menus. Fellow mini-frikandel lovers, this is your spot!
Oosterpark 10, Amsterdam – barbukowski.nl
An inviting terrace in the sun with a view of the idyllic fountain. Feel like a god in Barcelona, Rome, or Paris! The menu is welcoming, exactly what you'd expect from a modern café.
Hogeweg 48, Amsterdam – barrestaurant1900.nl
Head towards Oosterpark to relax at PARK, the restaurant at Hotel Arena. It's one of Amsterdam's most beautiful terraces with a view of the park. For me, it's a perfect spot for drinks or lunch during the day. It's also perfect for kids, as there's plenty of space to play right outside, at the foot of Oosterpark.
's-Gravezandestraat 55, Amsterdam – parkcafe-restaurant.nl
Inside, this is a beautiful spot, but the terrace is also definitely worth a visit. Especially if you're looking for a coffee, lunch, or drinks. Located between Dapperstraat and Javastraat, you can go anywhere from there!

On Weesperzijde in Amsterdam East, you'll find grand café de Ysbreeker. It's not exactly trendy, but it's a spot locals keep returning to. They open every day at 8:00 AM, perfect for early risers. Start your day off right with a cup of coffee from the espresso bar, but they also have lunch options. From poached eggs with salmon and hollandaise sauce to toasted sandwiches, the menu is incredibly accessible. In the summer, they have one of the best terraces in Amsterdam East for evening sun, perfect for a bite to eat.

Looking for a relaxed terrace in Amsterdam East? KAAP is the place! This city beach offers fantastic views over the water, where you can relax with your feet in the sand. Enjoy cold beers, vegetarian dishes, and a laid-back atmosphere. Since it's a bit further out from the center of East, the bike ride there is probably a fun outing for most of us.
