45 x best terraces in Amsterdam East

Buurtcafé De Tros

The cozy Buurtcafé De Tros not only has a beautiful interior, but you can also enjoy incredibly delicious food. Every day they keep spots open for walk-ins, both inside and outside on the terrace. I love coming here to have a drink with my husband and child, but it’s also the perfect place for an evening with friends or a date. You must try the famous smash burger and the ever-changing menu keeps surprising.
Linnaeusstraat 63H, Amsterdam –

One of the nicest and largest new terraces in Amsterdam East is the terrace of Badhuis at Javaplein. From morning to evening, you can watch people cycle by while enjoying the sun of the Amsterdam summer. Another great thing about Badhuis is that you can reserve a spot on the terrace to be sure of a place. The drink menu is on point and the dinner menu is top-notch (the burger is definitely a favorite!). In short: a great addition to the neighborhood and a place where everyone feels at home.
Javaplein 21, Amsterdam –

In the past 15 years that I’ve lived in the neighborhood, I’ve seen the Wibautstraat in Amsterdam East change tremendously. It’s getting cozier and new fun eateries like Bottleshop certainly contribute to that! In good weather, you can enjoy a glass of natural wine or a bubble on the terrace. They have such a fun and diverse wine list and the team can give you excellent advice.
Wibautstraat 130, Amsterdam –

FITZ on the Roof (Pillows Maurits At The Park)

Amsterdam East has gained a new rooftop. At the Pillows Hotel, Fitz on the Roof opens in good weather. The cocktail bar Fitz, but on the roof of the beautiful building. You come here to enjoy the sunset and taste great cocktails. At Fitz on the Roof you can’t have an extensive meal, but there is a nice drink menu. In my opinion, this new rooftop terrace is a great addition to East, because such a chic place was really the only thing missing in the vast array of eateries. Here you can feel like you’re in another city due to the international vibe that you normally only experience in luxury hotels while traveling.
Mauritskade 61, Amsterdam –

Spring Café Brasserie (Pillows Maurits At The Park)

Looking for a beautiful and quiet terrace with a view of the Oosterpark? In the luxurious Pillows Maurits at the Park, besides Fitz on the Roof, you’ll also find the beautiful terrace of Spring Café Brasserie. This all-day restaurant with an Italian menu is not only stylish but also hidden among the greenery. You can enjoy lunch or dinner outside while listening to the birds chirping in the park. As you would expect from a luxury hotel, this all-day restaurant is also child-friendly. They even have a separate kids’ menu!
Mauritskade 61, Amsterdam –

Le French Café

In the always lively and cozy Javastraat you can visit Le French Café all day long. This modern French bistro has a menu full of the best from France, making you feel like you’re in Paris for a moment. The interior is really cool! Another fun thing about this new restaurant in Amsterdam is the various cozy corners in the place. A table to join, small bistro tables where you can quietly read a newspaper, a cozy bar for endless drinks later in the day, and of course a lovely terrace. On the menu, you’ll find delicious brunch dishes such as Eggs Benedict, steak tartare, and more. Staying for drinks after brunch? Then Le French Café is definitely the right place. The snacks are so delicious that you might almost skip the main course for dinner. But that would be a shame if you love fruits de mer! This new restaurant in Amsterdam is not only a great addition for anyone who loves French food but also the perfect place to enjoy shellfish and seafood. So plan that next dinner date!

The terrace of Troef is in good weather the entrance to a delightful evening of extensive dining in the restaurant. You can start with an aperitif and some small bites to share. At the small bistro tables, you leave the worries of the day behind while you enjoy the sun on your face and a sidelong glance towards the Amstel. Such a lovely place!
Schollenbrugstraat 8, Amsterdam –

Risto Enoteca PepeNero

There aren’t many tables on the terrace at Risto Enoteca PepeNero in the Eerste Oosterparkstraat, but the food is excellent. Marco is undoubtedly the best host in Amsterdam who turns every evening at Pepenero into a celebration. You come here for the authentic Italian cuisine without fuss. The best ingredients, pure dishes. This remains one of the best restaurants in East, and in good weather, you can be one of the lucky ones to snag a spot on the terrace. Reservations are necessary!
Eerste Oosterparkstraat 3-5, Amsterdam –

Restaurant Alba is a wonderful place on the Wibautstraat where you can sit down for a fine dining dinner on the terrace. The dishes change with the seasons, so you’ll always taste something new. Let yourself be advised by the delicious accompanying natural wines they source directly from the producers. When you’re sitting on the terrace here, you forget the hustle and bustle of the Wibautstraat immediately! On Saturdays and Sundays, they open at 4:00 PM, making it a great spot for a drink.
Wibautstraat 105HS, Amsterdam –

Restaurant De Kas

De Kas is undoubtedly one of the most special restaurants in Amsterdam East. You eat beautiful dishes in a huge greenhouse in the middle of Park Frankendael. The vegetables on your plate are harvested in the morning from their own gardens in North Holland. And you can taste it! In good weather, you can sit on the terrace under the shade cloths. A tip to remember if you want to have an extensive and luxurious lunch on a weekday!

Alex + Pinard

At Alex + Pinard, located on the lively Dapperstraat, you can enjoy delicious wines combined with snacks and dishes to share. You can come here every day from 4:00 PM to the sunny terrace. What makes this spot so charming is that they currently have a Ukrainian pop-up and the entire menu is adapted to it. I would say: drop by and be surprised!
Dapperstraat 10, Amsterdam –

Restaurant Wilde Zwijnen

At Javaplein you will find restaurant Wilde Zwijnen, where cooking with ingredients from the Dutch cuisine is central. Definitely a classic in the neighborhood, as it has been one of the best fine dining restaurants in East since its opening. You come here for an extensive dinner, and in good weather, this can also be enjoyed on the terrace. Personally, I’m a big fan of their lunch on Saturdays and Sundays!
Javaplein 23, Amsterdam –

Bar Bachrach

For those who love delicious wines, Bar Bachrach is an address not to be missed. Here you will find an extensive selection of organic and biodynamic wines on the menu. But the real reason you want to eat here are the delicious dishes with flavors from the Middle East and Mediterranean cuisine. The terrace isn’t large, so making a reservation is a good idea.
Javaplein 25, Amsterdam –

Loulou Pizzabar

For the best pizza on the terrace, I always go to LouLou in East. The terrace on the Weesperzijde has fortunately become much larger since the takeover of the place next door. The pizzas are incredibly delicious, and you can choose between sourdough or gluten-free dough (made with a unique mix of pea flour, rice flour, and cornflour). I can tell you: it’s one of the few places where I eat all the crusts of the pizza ;-). It’s also a great place for a quick meal with the kids. The bunny ear pizza remains a hit.
Weesperzijde 42A, Amsterdam –

When you say Wibautstraat, you say BAUT Oost! This restaurant is an institution, and especially when it comes to the sunny terrace, you’re always in the right place. You can have an extensive dinner or just a nice drink. The advantage of the large terrace? There’s almost always a spot to be found!

Eating sushi on the terrace in Amsterdam East? You can at Sushi Fanatics! It’s definitely my favorite place to order sushi. But in good weather, the small terrace is really a hidden gem. Bar Bouche

Surrounded by trees, you feel like you’re away from the Wibautstraat when you’re sitting on the terrace at Bar Bouche. Open from 12:00 PM on weekends, other days for drinks from 4:00 PM. In my opinion, Bar Bouche is a typical all-rounder. The atmosphere is accessible, the terrace looks incredibly cozy, and the menu is full of delicious dishes to share. A glass of wine and nothing more needed!

Clos Amsterdam

The perfect mix between a wine bar and a restaurant is, in my opinion, the accessible Clos Amsterdam. On the enclosed terrace, you can enjoy the beautiful weather in Amsterdam East from late afternoon. The menu is full of dishes to share, and the wines are conveniently categorized by flavor profile.
Beukenplein 50, Amsterdam –

Restaurant Nomads

At Restaurant Nomads, you’ll be transported to distant lands. The terrace offers an oasis of peace by the water in Oostpoort. Here you go for an extensive dinner with colorful, worldly dishes. The menu changes every six months, with a different country taking center stage each time. From Middle Eastern lamb chops to South American ceviche, it’s always a surprise.
Oranje-Vrijstaatkade 55, Amsterdam –

Are you crazy about tacos? At Local Dealer, you eat the best in East made from cornmeal. The concept of this restaurant was born during a trip to Mexico. In the summer months, you can enjoy the colorful terrace. Fancy a cocktail? They make the best here.
Dapperplein 23, Amsterdam –

L’Osteria is an Italian restaurant that (I think) is especially loved by families. Especially in nice weather, because with the playground in front, it’s great for kids aged from kindergarten onwards. You can eat peacefully while they play. But honestly: even without kids, this part of Amsterdam East is worth a visit. In nice weather, it’s a great swimming spot, and then you can hop from a picnic in the grass to the terrace for a pasta or pizza. Buon appetito!
Korte Ouderkerkerdijk 16, Amsterdam –

Ode aan de Amstel

Do you want to eat by the water in East? Then you should go to Ode aan de Amstel. On the spot where Riva used to be, you can now enjoy an accessible all-day menu. Prefer to go all out with multiple courses? Then choose the chefs menu! They are open every day from 11:00 AM for lunch and also have a nice Sunday Brunch on Sundays.

One of my favorite hidden gems in East. Even a little sunshine feels pleasant here, and the food is simple but good. Also a fun spot to have a drink with the kids while you sit in one of the beach chairs on the grass.
Ringdijk 58, Amsterdam –

De Gastronout

De Gastronout is a bar and bistro in East where they serve French dishes with an international twist. In good weather, you can enjoy delicious food on the terrace on Dapperstraat. Cute detail: the terrace tables are still set with linen!

Whether you come for lunch, dinner, or just a drink with friends, the rooftop terrace of Canvas is the perfect place to enjoy the sun and good vibes. The cocktails are good, the menu is full of specialty beers, the beats always on point, and the view unforgettable. You might quickly forget this gem of a terrace in Amsterdam East because it’s been open for a while, but be sure to visit again this summer!
Wibautstraat 150, Amsterdam –

Brouwerij Poesiat & Kater

At Brouwerij Poesiat & Kater in Amsterdam East, they have a wonderfully spacious terrace with a relaxed atmosphere. Here you can enjoy craft beers brewed on-site and tasty dishes that perfectly complement them. Whether you come for a cozy lunch, a bite to eat, or just a drink with friends at the picnic tables, you’re always in the right place. I find it a fun spot because it’s a bit more hidden in East behind the Oostpoort shopping center. It feels a bit like a hidden gem!

Javaplein 7, Amsterdam –

De Plantage

How nice is this terrace? On a square next to Artis with a view of the flamingos. Our regular spot for a drink in nice weather after a visit to Artis. The kids can play in the fountain while you enjoy a glass of wine. Or is there a downside? The service can be inconsistent, but you take that in stride at such a spot ;-).
Plantage Kerklaan 36, Amsterdam –

Brouwerij ‘t IJ

Head towards the Oosterpark to sit cozily at PARK, the restaurant of Hotel Arena. Truly one of the most beautiful terraces in Amsterdam with a view of the park.
