𝗔𝗡𝗧𝗪𝗘𝗥𝗣𝗘𝗡 𝗚𝗜𝗩𝗘𝗔𝗪𝗔𝗬 👀 This is the coolest new hotel for a night away! Meet @viaantwerp , the newest boutique hotel in Antwerp on the border of Zurenborg and Borgerhout (yep, voted 2nd coolest neighborhood in the world by Time Out). I recently stayed at this gem and this hotel really has it all: a lively bar with a cozy atmosphere, walls full of creative art, beautiful bright rooms and it's within walking distance of great hotspots. And I haven't even mentioned @mea.antwerp! The delicious restaurant with a chef behind the pans who previously cooked at The Palomar in London. If you know, you know! 13 x swimming in Amsterdam, from city beach to swimming jetty

Marineterrein

This is truly a hidden gem in the city center, if you ask me. Right in front of Pension Homeland, you can enjoy a wonderful swim in the summer. Complete with a jetty and steps to get back out. And a lovely lawn for a picnic! It's now an official swimming spot, so the water quality is monitored. An extra bonus this summer is the Summer Counter that is open >>

Weesperzijde

This summer, the Amstel River has been closed off again so that swimming is safe near Hesp and Bam Boa. Fun for kids who have a swimming certificate!

Swimming jetty Het Eikenhout

There are several swimming spots in the De Houthavens neighborhood, but the best one is probably the jetty at Hotel Boat & Co. From Het Eikenhout, you can enter the water via the stairs and easily exit. Just be careful of currents and boats, of course.
Revaleiland 500, Amsterdam

Gaasperplas

A quick metro ride, or a bike ride on a sunny day, will have you at Gaasperplas in no time. Here, you'll truly feel like you're away from the city, surrounded by beautiful woods and a large lake perfect for swimming. Tip: Bring an inflatable boat—it's fun!

IJburg Beach

IJburg beach is officially open again. It's also very family-friendly! And if you're looking for something to eat and drink after an afternoon on the sand, head to the terrace of beach club De Japanner Strandeiland.
Pampuslaan 501, Amsterdam, Netherlands

Ouderkerkerplas

A little outside the city, but definitely worth it. Ouderkerk aan de Amstel is a picturesque village known not only for its excellent restaurants and cafes, but also for its lake. It has both a sandy beach and grass, but be careful of blue-green algae!

Who are you going swimming outside with in Amsterdam?

De Ceuvel

One of my favorite spots, not just in Noord, but all of Amsterdam when it comes to swimming. With a bit of luck, there's still room in the hammock, but relaxing on a terrace is also a great idea. And with sunshine, the road to Noord isn't either!
Korte Papaverweg 4, Amsterdam – cafedeceuvel.nl

The Twiske

Do you come here mainly for the festivals, like Welcome To The Future? I used to too, until I discovered what a great area it is! It's a bit of a bike ride from the ferry, but then you're right in the heart of nature. Tip: If you have kids, this is especially recommended!

outdoor swimming in amsterdam from jetty to beach

Amsterdam forest

This enormous forest boasts several bodies of water where you can cool off. The most famous is the canoeing pond, where you can also rent canoes and pedal boats. It's also a fun way to enjoy a change of pace! Don't forget to visit the goat farm and Meerzicht Farm if you're traveling with kids.

Olympic Stadium

Until recently, this was one of Amsterdam's best-kept swimming secrets. The hill behind the Olympic Stadium is perfect for a summer day if you don't want to venture too far from the city. There are several jetties, and thankfully, it's not too crowded (yet) on a hot day. Bring your own food and drinks (cooler!).

Park Somerlust on the Amstel

There are several wonderful spots for swimming in the Amstel River, especially if you have a boat! You can moor it in the middle of the water near Spaklerweg (near the Omval) and take a dip. Not on a boat? Then head to Park Somerlust in the new neighborhood along the Amstel. There's a lovely lawn where you can sunbathe and walk right into the water. I also find the jetty in front of the De Mirandabad swimming pool a great spot for a dip in the Amstel. If you're swimming in the Amstel, be very careful of boats; they can be dangerous!

things to do in summer: swimming outdoors in Amsterdam

Nieuwe Meer

You'll find several beaches here, some more secluded than others. The water is still relatively clean, with views of Amsterdam's Zuidas skyline. Paddleboarding, also known as stand-up paddleboarding, is also a great option. You'll find this in the Nieuwe Meer lake area in Amsterdam Zuid, past the Schinkel area.
New Lake, Amsterdam

Bogor Garden

Swimming and sunbathing amidst the houses is possible at the Bogor Garden on Java Island. You'll need to bring your own food and drinks, but there's a supermarket nearby. From the water, you have a lovely view of Zeeburg. This unofficial swimming spot is becoming increasingly popular, and therefore we strongly request that you do not cause any nuisance to residents. Amsterdam's public spaces belong to all of us, but please make sure you don't litter or make excessive noise.
Bogor Garden, Amsterdam

Sloterplas

{Update June 2023} Please note: the water quality in the Sloterplas will be very poor in 2023 and it is not recommended to swim there this summer. Therefore, always observe the aforementioned Zwemwater.nl keep an eye out for updates.

The Sloterplas has undergone a major transformation with the arrival of the Sloterstrand. It's now an ideal spot for sunbathing in Amsterdam or for canoeing or stand-up paddleboarding, for example. There are also several adjacent restaurants and cafes, such as Hotel Outside Or Het Boothuis, where you can enjoy a drink after a day of sunbathing. You're also welcome to light your own barbecue!
Sloterplas, Amsterdam

 | TIP: Check out more great summer lists here, such as: city beaches in Amsterdam, SUP in Amsterdam, parks where you are allowed to barbecue, outdoor swimming pools in Amsterdam, the best terraces per district, canoeing in Amsterdam, best parks for a picnic, tastiest ice creams in Amsterdam en nice rooftop bars in Amsterdam.
