Sunday 7: Ridzert Beetstra, the guy behind Buiten Westen

3 May 2015

7 questions to Ridzert Beetstra, also known as DJ Some Chemistry!

It seems like years ago that I studied at the UvA together with Ridzert. Now he’s one of the  guys behind Buiten Westen festival which is back in Amsterdam July 18. But did you know he’s also DJ Some Chemistry? Beside Buiten Westen he organises events like Next Monday’s HangoverPRISMAPixel and De Zon. This music fanatic and partygoer tells all about his Amsterdam in this Sunday 7.

Tip: Ridzert can be found on Facebook and Instagram via @somechemistry!

My perfect Sunday
“Usually I’d go watch Ajax by simply taking the train to the Arena. If they’re playing elsewhere you’ll probably find me at my usual pub Onder de Ooievaar with friends, having some meatballs along with some IJ Zatte beers. I used to end up in Trouw on my Sundays, but sadly that’s not possible anymore.”

Drinking coffee…
“At Concerto, Utrechtsestraat. Black. Then after that I’ll look for a nice record at the store.”

Favourite neighbourhood
Amsterdam East, that’s where you can find the perfect mix of haute couture and gangster. It is also the neighbourhood where you can find restaurants with so many different cuisines. For example De Biertuin, Volkshotel/Canvas or Brouwerij ‘t Ij.”

Shopping in Amsterdam at…
Charlie + Mary at Gerard Doustraat! I used to live on a floor above them for a couple of years, they’re awesome and have a super nice shop! Other than that, I always get really happy with record stores such as Rush Hour.”

Hidden gem
The rooftop from the Ramada Hotel (Floor17), we organised a pop-up rooftop party there last year for Buiten Westen. Amazing view over the whole city and a great atmosphere. It got a little out of control, but in a good way. I plead for more rooftop parties!”

Favourite restaurant overseas?
“Don’t have one, just a good ol’ BBQ in every corner of Argentina, Bolivia or Brazil. Un asado con sal y limon por favor!”
