Amsterdam gets most spectacular graffiti museum in the world

10 February 2017

a graffiti museum in Amsterdam, we want to go!

OMG! Good news for all the street art addicts on this cold Friday afternoon. In the summer of 2018 the biggest graffiti museum in the world will open their doors in our little Amsterdam. You can’t make us any happier than that we are now!

The graffiti museum will be dedicated to street art and will be located in the Lasloods at NDSM-werf, a location you’re probably already familiar with. ‘Cause on the frontside of the building you can already see a huge portrait of Anne Frank. Everything makes sense, they’re giving us a little taste of the biggest graffiti museum in the world!

Update December 31 2019: This new graffiti hub will be in Amsterdam North and has NOTHING to do with SAMA. The Street Art Museum Amsterdam that is located in Amsterdam New West and who threatened me with a claim if I wouldn’t change the text of this article. They claim to be the only street art museum in Amsterdam and registered the name. So if you want to see the Anne Frank mural don’t go to New West. It’s in Amsterdam North and of course I’m happy to clear things up so you guys don’t mistake the two different projects. The graffiti museum at NDSM Wharf is a project of Street Art Today. Unfortunately the official opening date is not confirmed.

The graffiti museum will be huge, just like the portrait of Anne Frank. The surface of the Lasloods is in fact 7,000m². Twice as big as the Turbinehal at Tate Modern in London. That’s not all. All the works that will be displayed are also big. And by big we mean big! The smalles artwork right now is even bigger than the Nachtwacht (Night Watch). It’s 5 meters wide and 12 meters high.

famous street art artists in the biggest graffiti museum

They’ve already been working on the biggest graffiti museum in the world since 2015. That makes us wonder how you can keep this a secret… Anyway, all the works that will be showed are made especially for the museum by famous street art artists. Artists like Hoxxox from the United States, David Walker from England and Cranio from Brazil. The portrait of Anne Frank is made my Eduard Kobra.

It still takes a while, but us street art lovers are excited! We’ll keep you updated about the opening date. NICE!
