Strangelove Amsterdam: tasty food and a movie on the grounds of WG

3 January 2017

Dinner and a movie is given a new meaning with strangelove

If you live in the West of Amsterdam, chances are you’ve visited LAB111 already on the WG-terrein (and no, this isn’t an abbreviation for the Westergasterrein). The restaurant of LAB has had a total make-over is called Strangelove since the end of December. By the way, did you know what LAB owes its name to? This movie theater and restaurant Strangelove are situated in the old Pathological Anatomical Laboratorium of the academic hospital.

To me, LAB is one of those hidden gems that you are probably familiar with if you live in the West of Amsterdam, near the Overtoom and Kinkerstraat, but perhaps don’t know if you live in the East of the city. With restaurants like Strangelove this will probably change. The interior radiates a nice living room-feeling with lots of wood and cosy marble bistro tables. There are tiles on the walls (still the original ones from the old lab?) with lots of planters with green hanging in front.

They’ve lured Chef Dennis Lee to the new concept of this restaurant, who previously has worked at PLLEK. Another one of those creative meeting spots! The menu for this winter sure looks promising. And I’m already looking forward to a datenight with my lover at Strangelover and after that grab a movie at LAB. You can get a three course menu for € 34,- which can be extended with a cheese platter. Separate appetizers are  € 9,- and the main courses are € 18,-. When it comes to the dishes, think of tame duck breat with a tail of puff pastry (millefeuille) with smoked Stockeye salmon and sauerkraut. On Sunday and Monday they’re open for an afternoon drink and Tuesday to Saturday for dinner.
