City trips by train: the best and easiest

Make your daydreams come true and book a city trip by train now

Sometimes, your whole timeline is on travel, and you just can't seem to book a plane ticket. But why make things difficult when it can be super easy? We're big fans of city breaks by train. Because flying isn't the only way to get to exciting destinations anymore. Fancy a spontaneous city break? Looking for something a bit budget-friendly, without too much fuss? I've searched for the best city breaks for you, all by train! No hassle with check-in and long flights, perfect for a weekend getaway!

London (from 59 euros) >> city trips by train

You can reach London in several ways: by plane, by boat, and by train. Personally, I find either plane or train the most convenient. If you take the train from Amsterdam, you'll be in central London in just four to five hours! You'll have a short transfer in Brussels, but otherwise, it's a smooth train journey that's not too bad. Tip: book your train tickets well in advance; they're relatively cheap (from €59). If you're trying to buy a ticket last minute, the price can be quite disappointing.

Paris (From 29 euros) >> city trips by train

Traveling to Paris by train is almost as fast as flying. You can be in the heart of Paris in just three hours! That's practically the same distance as Amsterdam to Maastricht. This makes it a great city break if you can only get away for the weekend. Just get up early and enjoy croissants for breakfast with a view of the Louvre!

Berlin (from 39 euros) >> city trips by train

I love Berlin! Such a unique city, bursting with culture and fun hotspots. If you're going to Berlin for a weekend, you certainly won't be bored. You can board at various stations, from Amsterdam to Hengelo, and you'll be there in just six hours. Besides Berlin, Düsseldorf and Cologne are also great German cities you can visit by train.

Fancy a spontaneous weekend getaway? Then I recommend Brussels! Easy to reach, affordable, and there's so much to do! There's a direct train from Rotterdam to Brussels; the journey takes just an hour and 1 minutes, so you'll be there in no time! So close, yet it already feels like a foreign country.

Vienna might not be the most obvious city break, but this city is highly recommended! You'll be amazed by its beauty, culture, and delicious food! Book your train journey well in advance; tickets will be cheaper, and you can also save money by choosing the night train!
