Check-in: staying at the Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam is 24 hours of pure luxury

It won't have escaped your notice: Your Little Black Book has its own Summer Afternoon Tea At the Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam. A dream come true! I won't mince my words: the Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam is one of my favorite hotels in Amsterdam. When I walk up the stairs of the stately building on the Herengracht canal, it feels like a warm blanket has been wrapped around me. Since its opening in 2014, I've been coming here when I have something to celebrate with family in Amsterdam or when I miss traveling and crave the international grandeur you only find in the world's very best hotels. As an ambassador for the Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam being a true part of the local Waldorf family ensured that something beautiful could arise, like the Summer Afternoon Tea that we created together.

The Waldorf is a great example for me of how nice it is to visit luxury hotels even if you're not staying there. Because: although I come here regularly for lunch at Peacock Alley, the Guerlain Spa, or a special dinner at Spectrum**I'd never woken up there until this summer! In a world without Covid-19, the hotel is always packed with (international) guests. A night in the city's best hotel was high on my dream list. And you guessed it: to celebrate the launch of my afternoon tea, we were invited to stay! The Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam is for everyone who loves luxury travel. What can you expect when you stay in Amsterdam's best hotel? I'll tell you all about it in this check-in story!

Just back from Catalonia and I thought: I'll share some tips right away. During our road trip, we stayed two nights in the Ebro Delta. An incredibly fun stop for families and foodies alike, where there is plenty to do. · A boat trip to the Musclarium is a must! Here you eat oysters and mussels straight from the farm, in the middle of the sea. · Admire the flamingos and black ibises that can be found here all year round. · Rice is grown in the Ebro Delta all year round. For paella, but Kensho also makes sake and miso from it! You can visit them during a tasting. · Cycling along the rice fields, canoeing on the Ebro River, and visiting various beaches. It was still a bit too cold now, but there is plenty to do. · The towns are very low-key and not that exciting, but you can find fantastic local food there. From the Michelin-awarded Les Moles* to local eateries like Vermuteria Bonmarisc and Lo Tinglado. We ate a lot of fish, but also anemone fritters (a first!). Now back to work, and I’m going to create an extensive travel guide of this road trip through Catalonia, but you’ll want to save these tips for a future adventure. ✖️✖️✖️ 🖊️ @anne_de_buck { In this post, I share tips for the Ebro Delta in Spain (Delta de l'Ebre). Checking in at Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam

The Waldorf Amsterdam team ensures that service and experience don't have to be compromised within the current travel restrictions, as soon as you arrive at the hotel. I've been looking forward to this staycation for days. Your Little Black Book was born because I've always traveled extensively and would happily check into a luxury hotel and then not step outside for 24 hours, giving me time to truly enjoy all the facilities, such as the spa. Normally, this is the end of a long trip abroad, but why not for a staycation in my own country or city? I'm going to immerse myself in pure luxury for 24 hours. It starts at check-in, when I can choose which Cire Trudon scent to use as a room spray during turndown service. When we open the doors to our suite a little later, my luggage is already neatly stored in the closets, and we're welcomed with a bottle of champagne and pastries in the room. As a professional travel blogger, my heart still beats faster when I first arrive at a hotel, open the door, and see the room and the view for the first time. The rooms are beautifully bright. Classic, as you'd expect from a Waldorf, yet timeless. We have a separate living room, a wonderfully large bed, and a fantastically spacious bathroom with a bathtub and separate shower. Oh, how I've missed this kind of travel. I quickly slip on the fluffy bathrobe, and the champagne will have to wait, because first, it's spa time!

Guerlain Spa at Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam

One of the things I always look forward to after a visit to the Guerlain Spa is holding on to that feeling of peace and me-time in the relaxation room. That's why I love hotel spas so much! Another nice bonus at the Waldorf Amsterdam: you can also use the pool and sauna. What makes my visit to the Guerlain Spa extra special is that it's my first treatment since lockdown. Here, they really take the time for YOU. First, a foot bath, then we discuss the options and any additional points of interest. We go for the Imperial Relaxing Massage, and as soon as I lie down on the soft treatment table, I feel all the worries and stress of the past few months melt away. This massage can be booked for an hour or an hour and a half, and it works the entire body. After an hour and a half, when I slip back into my hotel slippers and put on the soft bathrobe (which I also have at home to maintain that hotel feeling!), a pot of tea is already waiting in the relaxation room. Personally, I find this one of the greatest moments of pampering. Not rushing back to the hustle and bustle of everyday life after a massage, but instead holding on to that zen feeling for another half hour. Later, when I return to the room, we pop open a bottle of champagne and toast with a view of the canals. To health, love, and all the wonderful things yet to come.

Cocktails & dinner in the Peacock Alley

We continued our aperitif at Peacock Alley, where we also had dinner that evening. We started the evening with signature cocktails from the Vault Bar. The tarte flambée with lobster, chorizo, curry, kewpie, and bonito from the new menu at Peacock Alley was also delicious. A new favorite! Luckily, my other favorite classics: the lobster rolls and the club sandwich, were still on the menu. We finished the evening with a cheese plate and a nice glass of wine. Afterward, instead of cycling home as we normally would, we took the elevator to our room and watched another movie in bed. As soon as we stepped into the elevator, we decided to go back again this year. Spectrum** Dinner. The two-Michelin-starred restaurant at the Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam, helmed by chef Sidney Schutte and restaurant manager Sascha Speckemeier. We immediately set a date for the week before Christmas. When we arrive in our room, I immediately smell the Cire Trudon fragrance we chose upon check-in. We watch Notting Hill in bed, order a treat from room service (just because!), and, for once, don't set the alarm.

Swimming & breakfast in the room

What's better than starting the day with a few laps in the pool and fifteen minutes in the sauna? With a toddler at home, our mornings rarely start so relaxed. So we're making the most of it! And that's also one of the reasons why, when you're staying at a hotel like the Waldorf in your own country, you really shouldn't want to leave the hotel at all. Immerse yourself in #hotellife and really take advantage of all the facilities. Something that can easily be overlooked during a city break abroad, as you're often out and about exploring the city. That's precisely why I find these kinds of nights away so valuable. Because you already know the city. So really give yourself that time for... yourself! For example, enjoy a relaxing bath with a book or magazine.

7 AM swim in the pool

Normally, breakfast is served in the Goldfinch Brasserie, but for now, it's served in the privacy of your own room. I have to admit, I almost always ask for that when we're in a hotel anyway. And the breakfast at the Waldorf Amsterdam? Incredibly extensive. With perfectly baked rolls and a variety of toppings, from salmon to charcuterie and jams made especially for the Waldorf. With my cappuccino, I settle into the chair by the window overlooking the canal. You understand: I could live here forever… But at home, a sweet little man is waiting for us. Who, thanks to the Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam with Teddy "Adam," is being spoiled just as much as we have been for the past 24 hours. And to keep us in the mood, we're getting the Waldorf Delight Box to take home. A box full of treats for a special (drinks) moment at home. Thank you, Waldorf, I'm proud to be your ambassador, and this year's collaboration on Summer Afternoon Tea is the crowning achievement. I look forward to our next visit!
