Officially, Weesp falls under the municipality of Amsterdam (to the dismay of some born and raised Weesp residents), and that’s why we believe that the recently opened Somm Bistro Weesp deserves a place in the Amsterdam hotspot list. This new bistro meets wine bar is owned by a well-known name in the hospitality industry: Sascha Holzkämper, former sommelier of Gordon Ramsay. He loves good wines like no other but without too much fuss. Because a good wine suits any dish, he believes.

Visit Somm Bistro Weesp

Travelling to Weesp is worth the effort, as there’s a good chance you’ll taste wines at Somm Bistro Weesp that you haven’t had before. There are no wine arrangements, but good wines can go with any dish. ‘Asking which wine suits the food is disrespectful to the wine,’ the restaurant owner explained to Parool.

It may be that the name sounds familiar to you. In recent years, Sascha owned wine bar SOMM in De Baarsjes. There was no room for expansion, so he sought his fortune in Weesp.

Menu Somm Bistro

Order what you like; that’s what Somm is all about. Yet, the sommelier is known for surprising his guests. So, if you generally want a buttery Chardonnay, he might bring something completely different but with a matching flavour. That seems to be the sport of a sommelier – it keeps the job exciting. Somm is for all wine connoisseurs and people who want to enjoy a nice glass of wine. Prices range from €36 to €1500 per bottle, and the aim is to have over 350 wines on the menu eventually. Glasses are sold starting from €6. They improvise with available fresh products for dinner, so the menu changes regularly. The focus is on wine, but there is complementary food. In short, it is a culinary bistro with a twist. One you will gladly travel to Weesp for. Just ensure you have a designated driver or taxi home, as you won’t stay sober.
