Seals; I can watch them for hours. There are few animals more playful than these creatures. Off the coast of South Africa There are several seal colonies. It's no wonder there are so many sharks here. But don't worry, the sharks aren't always there. If the wind isn't too strong (which in Kaapstad (can be quite a challenge) you can snorkel with seals in Hout Bay. Yes, you can happily swim around with these special animals. Don't forget your go-pro, you can watch my bucket list video here from my snorkeling adventure!
This is what snorkeling with seals is like in Hout Bay near Cape Town.
Arriving in Hout Bay you measure the Animal Ocean snorkeling team In the harbor parking lot, crates of snorkeling gear and wetsuits are laid out on the asphalt. Make sure you've already put on your bikini and put on a wetsuit. You'll look even more like a seal in the water later; believe me, those things rarely look sexy unless it's your own wetsuit. Then, on a zodiac-like boat, you'll head to the seal colony off the coast of Hout Bay in South Africa. I remember thinking: what about the sharks? Surely they can't be in one bay and not the other? I mean, there's no electric fence or anything.
To be honest... I was the last one in the water. When, after three minutes, no one had been attacked by a shark, I jumped in too. I was so excited! I saw the first seals emerge from the seaweed. It's a good thing I got in, because this is so special! Seals everywhere around you. Each snout cuter than the last. Ten-tonners and tiny babies. They swim around you like lightning when you're snorkeling with seals in Hout Bay. The only reason to get out of the water is that you'll start to get a bit colder. That wetsuit will come in handy!
If you're in Cape Town, snorkeling with seals in Hout Bay is a must-do if you're looking for a unique experience you can't find anywhere else in the world. Trust me, you'll have memories of this adventure you'll cherish forever!
