A nice restaurant, perfect location and fantastic interior
A place to stay in a small street in the historic center between the canals, yet close to shopping districts like Speicherstadt, sounds like music to our ears. And let the new Sir Nikolai Hotel just located in this really nice neighborhood in HamburgThis hotel is part of Sir Hotels, one of our favorite boutique hotel chains. Yes, you can find them in Amsterdam too! The moment I walked in, I felt right at home, and while I enjoyed a drink in one of the velvet armchairs, my room was checked in.

The countless paintings, novels, cocktail table, Marshall box, and many other charming little trinkets make the hotel room a truly home-away-from-home. Hamburg is easily accessible by train from Amsterdam (and, of course, many other cities in the Netherlands), and before dinner, I tested the bathroom with its enormous rain shower to freshen up. A little later, we sat down for dinner at Izakaya, one of our favorite Amsterdam restaurants, located in Hamburg on the first floor of the Sir Nikolai Hotel.

Izakaya serves Peruvian-Japanese cuisine, and once again they surprised us with this unique combination of cuisines. After the three courses of dishes like avocado tartare, asparagus tempura, and mango and tuna sushi, dessert followed. A combination of Madeleines, sorbet, and white chocolate curls! Need we say more? And how wonderful it is after such an evening to simply take the elevator up to step under that rain shower once more and fall asleep on the enormous box spring, sinking your head into the downy pillows!
Breakfast at Izakaya in Hamburg
The next morning, an impressive breakfast buffet awaited me at Izakaya. A bonus of the hotel is that you can also choose several à la carte breakfast dishes, made to order. I'm in favor of a delicious breakfast of sourdough avocado toast with a poached egg. A perfect start to the day, if you ask me!
If you are planning a weekend in Hamburg, then Sir Nikolai Hotel The perfect base. Keep in mind, though, that this hotel is so nice that you might not want to leave.

Straight from the airport to this little place to taste soup dumplings and so much more! That's what I call a soft landing 😉 <3
In Taipei, you go to a Soy Milk Shop for breakfast. Warm soy milk to eat in a bowl, and steam baskets with the tastiest dumplings and baozi. You can really wake me up for this kind of breakfast. These local breakfast spots come in all shapes and sizes, from Michelin-recommended spots to hole-in-the-wall stalls.
Most soy milk shops open early (and sometimes even 24 hours a day), and these are the dishes you want to try:
🥄 Warm soy milk
🥢 Soup dumplings (you can often choose between pork and veggies)
🥢 Pork baozi
🥢 Youtiao (油條 - a kind of fried donut stick)
🥢 Youtiao (油條) w/ pork floss & rice
🥢 Turnip cake
🥢 Chives pancake
🥢 Scallion pancake
TIP: Sharing is a good idea to taste as much as possible, because the portions are (often) large.

Just back from Catalonia and I thought: I'll share some tips right away.
During our road trip, we stayed two nights in the Ebro Delta. An incredibly fun stop for families and foodies, where there is plenty to do.
• A boat trip to the Musclarium is a must! Here you eat oysters and mussels straight from the farm, in the middle of the sea.
· Admire the flamingos and black ibises that can be found here all year round.
· Rice is grown in the Ebro Delta all year round. For paella, but Kensho also makes sake and miso from it! You can visit them during a tasting.
Cycling along the rice fields, canoeing on the Ebro River, and visiting various beaches. It was still a bit too cold right now, but there is plenty to do.
• The towns are very low-key and not that exciting, but you can find fantastic local food there. From the Michelin-awarded Les Moles* to local eateries like Vermuteria Bonmarisc and Lo Tinglado. We ate a lot of fish, but also anemone fritters (a first!).
Now back to work, and I’m going to create an extensive travel guide of this road trip through Catalonia, but you’ll want to save these tips for a future adventure.
