Silk Amsterdam: the hotspot that brings Silk Road cuisine to Amsterdam

6 July 2025

Restaurant Silk Amsterdam is the latest hotspot from the creators of Salvo Bakehouse and nNeapizzeria. You get it: it simply has to be good. Limau Chen and Paolo Manzo are making serious waves, and Silk is their newest venture. What’s on the menu? Flavours inspired by the Silk Road. A blend of Mediterranean and Asian influences that goes far beyond the term ‘fusion’.

Atmosphere and interior at Silk Amsterdam

Chen already runs a pizzeria and two Italian bakeries, but she wanted to explore her heritage more deeply. And so Silk was born: a place where dishes are crafted using flavours found along the ancient Silk Road. There is no traditional Italian or Chinese fare, but a creative mix of both—a fresh concept with equally innovative flavours.

The interior somewhat resembles Little Collins, which was formerly located here. The elongated space has a relaxed, laid-back vibe, and you’ll immediately feel at ease. The deep red walls are broken up by a stainless steel partition, which contrasts beautifully with the dark wood and green accents. It’s a unique interior thoughtfully aligned with the kitchen’s vision.

Menu and dishes at Silk

The menu and dishes at Silk Amsterdam blend Italian and Chinese cuisine (both part of the Silk Road). But before you begin your dinner, start the evening with a special cocktail or a house-made soft drink created by the mixologist.

Now the food: as you’d expect from a place backed by an Italian bakery, the sourdough bread with smoked butter is truly delicious (we had to restrain ourselves from eating too much — you know that feeling). The rich buttered bread pairs wonderfully with the oysters served with Japanese vinaigrette, cucumber, and salmon roe.

Prefer veggie? Then go for the cabbage skewers, perfectly seasoned with aioli and lemon. If you want to indulge, opt for the perfectly fried sea bass, served whole. Admittedly, it might take a moment to get past the presentation (the head is a bit intimidating), but once you do, it’s undoubtedly one of the best fish dishes you’ll ever taste.
