10 x travel inspiration for the holidays!

I LOVE November and December. The holiday season is coming up, Amsterdam is full of lights and I have an alibi to shop till I drop. I have to confess: I use my plastic money a lot in these months.

MasterCard invited me to be guest editor of their “Selected by” Facebook magazine and curate 10 gift ideas for the holidays. Together with Hilmar Mulder of Elle Magazine, stylist Fred van Leer and gadget expert Erwin van der Zande I’m in very good company sharing the most beautiful finds you can shop online. As a travel expert I listed my 10 favourites from hotels to fun things to do in Amsterdam.

10 x holiday travel inspiration Selected By Your Little Black Book :

1) Aloft in Brooklyn
As you all know I love NY and I like it best to spend my days there in Brooklyn. A nice design hotel in Brooklyn is Aloft. Pretty affordable for New York standards and close to all the hotspots I wrote about so often. During the holiday season Brooklyn feels like a small village with all the Christmas lights. From Aloft it’s great to discover the neighbourhoods: Cobble Hill, Dumbo, Williamsburg and Greenpoint.

2) Art and food at Rijksmuseum
RIJKS. restaurant is the brand new restaurant of the Rijksmuseum. Another reason to go and visit during the holidays. Also cool is the exhibit Modern Times which. Until January 11 you can see beautiful vintage and modern photos.

3) W hotel in Seminyak (Bali)
I know, I know. Not everyone wants to spend Christmas in the cold in Holland. If you want to go on an Island getaway the W hotel in Seminyak. is a great choice. I stayed at this hotel a few years ago and I have to say that I really love it there.

4) Wereldkerstcircus at Carré
Last weekend I went to Carré with the whole family. One of my favourite theatres in Amsterdam when I’m in town. In December I always go to the Wereldkerstcircus. Fun for the whole family!

5) Conservatorium Hotel in Amsterdam
I can tell you first hand that a night at the Conservatorium Hotel is a great experience. This hotel isn’t only great for a city trip but also for locals to go out for cocktails or dinner. The new restaurant Taiko by Schilo is one of the best Japanese restaurants in town. They even have a Sake sommelier!

6) Go to Artis
For a day in Artis you don’t need to have kids! It’s fun for everyone. I’m an Artis member and go there often on a Sunday walk. Tip: order your tickets online and check the feeding times of the animals.

7) Christmas in L London Celebrating Christmas in London should be on everyone’s bucket-list. London is amazing during the holiday season! One of my favourite hotels there is the ACE hotel in Shoreditch. A neighbourhood with a lot of street art, young designers and trendy restaurants. LOVE it! Not to miss spots are the Sunday Upmarket and Broadway Market.

8) Going to the movies
In the winter time I love to go to Tuschinski. Tip: if you go with your love book one of the love seats at Tuschinski! This Christmas I’m going to see Gooische Vrouwen 2 with the girls!

9) Over the top hotel in Paris
“Paris is always a good idea” – Audrey Hepburn. But this quote could have been mine! One of the most amazing hotels at Le Marais is Du Petit Moulin on Rue de Poitou. Around the corner of concept store Merci and in the same street as hotspot Marie Celeste.
This boutique hotel has only 17 rooms and is designed by Christian Lacroix.

10) De Foodhallen in Amsterdam
Since the opening I’m a huge fan of De Foodhallen in Amsterdam West. Nice for lunch, drinks and bites with friends or dinner. The building is amazing! A former tramshed where you can also find a beautiful design hotel called Hotel De Hallen. Perfect for a weekend in Amsterdam!
