Bucket list: Release turtles on Koh Talu Island in Thailand

On a private island at Koh Talu Beach resort!

I travel a lot, I'm used to quite a lot. But releasing a turtle in Thailand is One of the most special things I've ever done in my life. An adventure I'll never forget!

Thailand is incredibly beautiful. I probably don't need to tell you that. Bangkok It's one of my favorite cities in Asia. There are so many hotspots there! But after a midweek in such a bustling city, it's wonderful to relax on one of the islands. When you think of the Thai islands, you probably immediately think of Koh Phi Phi, Koh Tao, and Koh Phi Phi. I was recently on a relatively unknown island. An island that only allows a limited number of visitors per year, and where you're not tripping over buckets, but over turtles!

Koh Talu Island is an hour's boat ride from the mainland of Prachuapkhirikhan. There's only one resort on this island, so the only choice you have to make is between a standard and a deluxe room. Koh Talu Island resort isn't a luxury beachfront condo with a private pool like you might be used to on other islands. No, this resort is more local and authentic.

4 reasons to visit Koh Talu Island resort:

Private beach!
RELAX on a private beach. Seriously, besides you, the people in the cabin next to you, and a few people who work there, there's absolutely no one on this island. I've never experienced anything more private than this.

Snorkeling
Snorkeling along the protected coral reefs off the coast of Koh Talu Island is also fun. There are many beautiful fish, especially near the rocks. If you stay on Koh Talu Island, you can also help plant new coral on the seabed. If you return in 10 years, they will (hopefully) be able to see where you planted your coral reef. This project is supported by the Thai government and is one of the eco-projects of the Koh Talu Island resort.

Massages all day long
Seriously... you can't go to Thailand without a good Thai massage. I could do it every day... The ladies at the Koh Talu Island resort really know what they're doing. A day at sea is so much fun!

Release your own turtle!
For me, the turtles are the number one reason to spend a few nights on Koh Talu Island! Every year, sea turtles come ashore to lay their eggs on Koh Talu Island. Fortunately, these turtles are protected. The eggs are collected and hatched in the turtle nursery. The baby turtles are cared for in special tanks, and when they are nine months old, they are released into the sea.

Releasing the sc turtles Here's where things get interesting. Guests at the Koh Talu Island resort can release 9-month-old turtles (if you're there at the right time!). This was so special... you can even give your turtle a name.

I named my turtle Bär, my sweetheart's nickname. The turtle release schedule is quite strict, so you might have to share a turtle with another guest. During our blog trip, I shared "my turtle" with Sabine. So you just give him a double name ;-).

And then the special moment… time to release Bär! WOW, letting a turtle swim in the ocean for the first time… My Bär was so brave! His instincts immediately told him what to do. Before I knew it, he was crawling towards the sea. FREE!

And off he went…into the great ocean!

Just back from Catalonia and I thought: I'll share some tips right away. During our road trip, we stayed two nights in the Ebro Delta. An incredibly fun stop for families and foodies alike, where there is plenty to do. · A boat trip to the Musclarium is a must! Here you eat oysters and mussels straight from the farm, in the middle of the sea. · Admire the flamingos and black ibises that can be found here all year round. · Rice is grown in the Ebro Delta all year round. For paella, but Kensho also makes sake and miso from it! You can visit them during a tasting. · Cycling along the rice fields, canoeing on the Ebro River, and visiting various beaches. It was still a bit too cold now, but there is plenty to do. · The towns are very low-key and not that exciting, but you can find fantastic local food there. From the Michelin-awarded Les Moles* to local eateries like Vermuteria Bonmarisc and Lo Tinglado. We ate a lot of fish, but also anemone fritters (a first!). Now back to work, and I’m going to create an extensive travel guide of this road trip through Catalonia, but you’ll want to save these tips for a future adventure. ✖️✖️✖️ 🖊️ @anne_de_buck { In this post, I share tips for the Ebro Delta in Spain (Delta de l'Ebre).
